ITT: recipes that went too far

2 lbs frozen peas
10 tablespoons unsalted butter - cubed, (see notes)
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
2 garlic cloves - minced
kosher salt - to taste
freshly ground black pepper - to taste

I usually turn off ad blocking on small cooking blogs that I really like and occasionally click the ads to help support the blog. Holy shit there are a lot of ads though.

I'd use half the butter, but 10tbsp is also an acceptable amount. Way I see it, any butter which doesn't cling to the peas and left behind in their dish when serving will be garlic-y and peas-y and perfect for sopping with bread.
The part I take issue with is the fucking sugar. Yes, I know a single spoonful isn't a lot, but I'm quite sensitive to sweetness so I'd pick up on it and hate the dish for its presence.
ffs, I'm Euro but live in America now and eat American packaged bread like slices of cake, it's so sweet to me. And American cakes? Too poisonously sweet for my poor tongue to handle much of.

You're going to get close enough to that taste without using anywhere near an entire stick of butter + 2 more tablespoons of it.

I'm also confused why she puts sugar in peas. Peas are already sweet compared to most vegetables.

>> No.19118894

>>19118885
Well yeah. Which is why I said I'd use half. But again, I'd be fine with using as much as the recipe suggests for bread sopping purposes.

Another fascinating recipe from that book. It uses the most famous oriental ingredient: cheese

I'm more concerned about the sugar. Green peas are already very sweet.
