Why are they all pushing the veggie / impossible burgers so hard? Why not just make portobello burgers? They taste better, they're good for you, mushrooms actually taste meaty, and its not made out of unknown chemicals and particleboard trying to simulate meat flavors.

mushroom belongs on a veggie burger. it's not a meal in itself. vegans hate when they're served 30 calories of mushroom instead of a meal. if you want something less processed, tempeh is a good option.

Yes, and if the argument was it's nothing compared to the global market for meat (it's like, 2% if that) that'd be one thing. Except $5.88bn is not "nobody" and it's larger than any market for Tofu or Seitan or weird bean burgers that have whole peas & corn in them for some reason.

It's pretty brilliant marketing because it gets retards who became vegan to "own" the meat eating chuds the imagined ability to say "I can eat a burger that tastes the exact same as a beef burger, but it's made from bean paste and xanthan gum!" Why is it being marketed so much? Because it's the dietary equivalent of coal rolling for vegan libtards who want to own the chuds.

The plant one, duh. Farming is the worst kind of labor. You have to water shit, keep pests from killing it all with nasty chemicals, then there is the harvest and planting prep. There is a fuck ton of work for farming, and a lot of labor is required. Immigrant labor usually, on visas or via illegal methods. And it can be seasonal, making it even shittier.

Animals are easier, they basically do their own thing. You just have to herd them around and patch them up when/if they get hurt, and keep predators away (which in some areas isn't even a concern). Doesn't require seasonal immigrant labor. Converts useless plant matter (grass & weed) that is super abundant into tasty meat that has essential fats for us humans. Sure the cowboy thing of the past eras may have been grueling, but not with modern transpo and butchering processes.

The only thing worse is fishing. That shit is far more brutal work.

>> No.19106788

The scientists who developed it think it is replacing meat, but the corpo overlords just want to move excess/undesired product.

What actually happened is some company has excess X items laying about from factory processes, and was like "How can I sell this to customers" and scientists slammed it all together creating a facsimile of a burger. This lets the corpos sell more shit for more profit.

Ground beef is how meat packers sell unwanted meat bits. This is no different for the plant farmers: take unwanted plant bits and grind them up into a slurry that can be pattied and turned into a "burger". If it tastes close enough, then they have goyslop they can sell for profit, getting rid of all that waste they have lying around.
