Happy birthday OP. Did you use the canned frosting? If not, then next time I suggest trying a homemade buttercream. American buttercream frosting is dead simple to make in a bowl by hand without the fuss of a meringue and makes even boxed cake mixes taste gourmet (some bakeries even use boxed mixes and customize their icings for retail sales).

Just a jar of vanilla. I'm not big into sweets like this, it was part for the lulz and half for my sister, her birthday last Friday. She got me baking scale to do gram measurements, so that will be fun.

Thanks again for all the kind words.

>ancient Saudi
Bin Laden was in his early 40's when the attacks occurred. That's hardly ancient. Also, while it was well executed, it wasn't some Ocean's 11 type heist; a handful of guys took over some planes with box cutters and flew them into buildings. Anyone with fairly minimal flying skills and the will to die for their sand god could have pulled it off. Plus, at that time, almost every time terrorists took over a plane, they just wanted some political prisoner released or for the plan to drop them off in Cuba or something. Nobody, then, was anticipating terrorists to crash commuter jets into skyscrapers, so there wasn't much resistance on the first planes.
Now, I won't discount that either the U.S. government or the Israeli government had prior knowledge of the attacks and allowed them to happen, but it's nowhere near unfathomable that a group of cave dwellers could have pulled it off.

You're welcome and happy late birthday for your sister too. Also great gift, a baking/kitchen scale isn't just useful for making sweets. I use mine to portion out meat cuts that I buy in bulk when they go on sale (along with dry beans, rice, lentils, etc.). Makes embiggening recipes and then dividing them for weak-ahead meal planning very easy
