produce is always cheap as fuck, especially stuff like herbs - normal stores gouge like crazy. bones for broth, oxtail should be cheaper. sesame oil, gochujang, hoisin sauce, dark soy sauce, light soy sauce, oyster sauce, curry paste, coconut milk, some fun instant noodles or snacks if you want, some rice wine for cooking, and cold sake for drinking if you want.

taiwanese/shanghainese food is characteristically bland - each region of china claims a particular set of flavors - north is dry, salty, east is neutral or bland, southeast is sweet, think cantonese type fare, and southwest is spicy. those are the general guidelines. taiwan just has their own thing but generally speaking resembles shanghainese cuisine.

- butterfly brand laab seasoning, you get a big tub and it lasts forever. i first make a mixture of tamarind paste, coconut sugar, rice vinegar, a little mushroom soy sauce, more low sodium soy sauce, fish sauce, and lime juice. at least a tbsp of each, but increase any of those depending on taste. i simmer and cook my vegetables and ground chicken in the sauce i made, and then top it with the laab seasoning. add lots of fresh basil, mint, and cilantro. it is so excellent if you like spicy food. restaurant tier. top with crispy fried shallots and peanuts. all of these ingredients can be found at asia mart.

- scallion or leek pancakes, brown sugar hotteok

- fresh udon in the freezer or fresh section, i also love the rice cakes and variations of shapes.

- literally bags of soup stock. it's like bags of liquid. get dinner on the table fast by just adding noodles, meat, and bok choy.

- green onion oil, an outstanding touch to anything you are making.

- aroy D tetra pak coconut milk, the elite coconut milk and the only one worth buying.

- from the bakery section i love to take home a custard bun. it's a brioche like sweet bread filled with a delicious vanilla custard. i am also a big fan of the sweet cream roll cakes :3

low sodium soy sauce is very useful for cooking so that your end product isn't inedibly salty. this also allows you to mix with flavored or thicker soy sauces while still maintaining enough liquid, and also not allowing those other flavors to overpower it. i'm only trying to help you.
