the problem is that you get much better favor from the algorithm if you show your face. you'll see it in thumbnails, they almost always have a human on them. same with having a human face in your video. "reaction" videos or people playing video games often have a small section of the screen showing their face, etc.
evidently, humans in general prefer seeing another human to some extent, and therefore the algorithm will recommend you more if you show your face.
