It's called a biological control. Most frequent one I see in use around where I am is ladybugs.
The problem is that the most destructive pests tend to be introduced (frequently from Asia) and if we were to try to use a biocontrol on them we'd more often than not have to introduce another invasive animal.

We actually do something similar in the western US. When someone wants fields cleared for fire season they'll rent out a flock of sheep and have them mow it down rather than using machinery. It's incredible how fast those cotton gremlins can devour an acre.
