Pies are often paler. Probably as they dont have an egg wash. Also many people buy the pies and then warm them up again later at home, so theyd get more brown. Itd be no good if they started off brown, as they'd end up burnt

I just noticed on the picture, it must have been a real picture online they grabbed off someone who uploaded they was about to eat one, as its had all the crust eaten off the pie.
