Asian buffets are the best, hands down. How could anyone possibly disagree? You can basically get any kind of food your heart desires, from barbecue, to pizza and chicken nuggets, to tasty Asian fare like orange chicken and lo mein. Not to mention the baller dessert section. That banana pudding and those jello squares? Fuggetaboutit. Ain't nothin' wrong with a good ol' classic Asian buffet. Bonus points if actual Asians that barely speak English work there.

Based. All of my local biffets have big vans where they shuttle their employees from nyc every day, and some of them are average level women with that qt 3.14 immigrant charm to them. I luv me a big ol plate of cheezy "seafood" and sushi after getting violently high in the parking lot

Haven't been to one in years, but an employee and I went to a Korean deli with the scales that they measure buffet food with and he was shocked. Guess they don't have by-weight buffets outside of the city, just AYCE joints.
After he quit bitching about it and actually ate, he was shocked a second time because the food was better than at the AYCE places he typically went to back home.

There used to be an AYCE authentic Chinese place here, but they closed with lightning speed because it was perpetually empty. Nobody wants lamb and cucumber soup, century eggs and blood tofu congee and steamed frog rice, I guess. Miss that place.

I'm on immunosuppressant, organ transplant drugs so if anyone is at risk, it'd be me.
I wear N95 when I go shopping, at religious services, to medical appointments and when forced to go to the office. While I haven't been out to a buffet since COVID, I did go to dim sum in August. I haven't gotten it yet and, again, immunocompromised so if I did manage to get it, I'd have known because it would not have been a mild case.
But you're right about buffets. People who go to AYCE buffets regularly are disgusting plague rats and I'd think going to one would be a significantly higher risk for me than dim sum.

Not an AYCE place but my chinese spot that used to only have asians working & eating there (besides me) has been drifting into mexican territory. I went recently and noticed they had music playing (I dont really recall them ever playing music before) and it was fucking typical ass mexican music and the tv had telemundo on. It was then I realized that over half the diners were mexicans that day. It used to be a great spot to check out asian cuties because it's near a university and the dining layout is such that it allows for decent people watching. The owner took my order because he had a mexican girl helping him but she was fairly useless so he stepped in and he's getting grayer and slower everyday which bums me out as I know the end is coming.

I used to really enjoy them when I was younger. As I've gotten older and more observant, I find it really hard to ignore how disgusting buffets are. The last time I went, there were a few pairs of giant hog people there. I'm talking 300 pounders, minimum. This one woman was dressed in pajamas, and was taking all the crab legs as soon as they came out. I walked by her and the stench emanating from her gigantic, unkempt body was unbearable. I briskly walked to another section of the buffet for fresh air. In front of me was a booger-nosed brat of a child licking his fingers. He then immediately grabbed a serving spoon with the same hand while he coughed uncontrollably into the tray of crab rangoons. I suddenly became repulsed and lost my appetite. It's been 3 years and I haven't been back. This was before COVID, so my feeling son hygiene and food have only been exacerbated since then.

Yea I love them but the waiters are always half-assed. They're just there to take your plates away and refill your drink. I only leave a $1 tip on the table when I am done. Been there several times with the same waiter and it's hilarious to me that he knows I'm going to leave a $1 tip everytime.

I live in a nice area so the closest asian buffet to me is in the shitty area like 50 minutes away from me, but I absolutely love going there to see the giant mexican families strutting in there like they're fucking kings and watch them mad dog other equally shitty mexican families like they have a greater right to be there

This was totally my fault. When I grabbed them and haphazardly put them on my plate, they fell apart. There's actually dedicated sushi chefs behind the sushi area and you can watch them freshly create it, their sushi section is surprisingly impressive for a buffet. Next time I go, I'll take some more pictures inside and make a new thread. I doubt you guys will be around then, but if you are then you can check it out. I'll probably go again next month, about once a month is my limit for buffets because I eat way too fucking much when I go.

I recommend first getting a "sampler plate" and getting one bite of everything that looks like it may be good, then you can taste test the entire buffet. This is what I do when I try new buffets out. Then for your second plate and subsequent visits, you'll know exactly what to get.

I love going to my local Chinese buffet at about 3:30. They switch from lunch to dinner prices at 4 (from $3.50 a pound for takeout to $4.50), but they start switching from lunch to dinner items in the buffet at around 3.

So at 3:30, I can load a takeout container full of coconut shrimp and crab rangoons but still get lunch prices.
