I think I fixed the food industry with my mind powers

They'll still be mean to you, just without as much yelling. At least, that's how it was when I went.

Never met a chef that wasn't a total cunt while on the job. Most of them were great guys after work.

Why would you go to culinary school? Just read recipes and try them. There is literally nothing difficult about professional cooking. It's just arduous, just not difficult.

>> No.18945438

>>18945429
Most recipes assume you know the techniques, and most technique guides give the wrong info.

Apparently it violates workers rights in my country these days. I was very surprised to hear this because everyone knows kitchens are supposed to be hell. Our college head pretty much told us that these days if a head chef starts shit flinging we're supposed to walk out and tap in with a specific person at work who is now some kind of wrangler for the head chef. I think I'd feel guilty sending them in like a zookeeper to calm down a gorilla

Like what.... show me an infographic that says something outlandish like a julienne is the same as a brunois or water boils at 300degrees. Watch a 3 min video on how to hold a knife. Practice, then get a job somewhere. Save that money to Practice making food without feeling guilty about throwing it out/feeding it to the dog if you fuck up.

I know how to cook but I need a certificate as proof that I'm qualified for jobs that I apply for. Shitty, because there's a guy in my class who has been a chef for 27 years already but he started before people cared about pieces of paper so they're forcing him back in to get a certificate to prove he knows how to do what he's done for longer than I've been alive

>> No.18945456

>>18945451
I've worked in plenty of places and not once did they ask me about my education. There is no chef certification. That's not a thing. There's servsafe.... but again that's an online certificate.

they probably also say they're not allowed to use hard drugs.

doesnt work like that, they require a degree usually
and job experience

It will still be hell. Long hours, overwhelming workload, impossible demands, and low pay to boot. The management may not be physically violent, but you sure as hell will get verbal abuse and psychological trauma.

It's still like that in the countryside, but I want a job in the city so I need to get the stupid paper. It's annoying that I could learn on the job but then again I'm enjoying the course so far

>>18945497
>psychological trauma
There's something weird about the guy who teaches us to cook. He's a nice guy but when you make eye contact speaking to him he holds his eyes wide open so you can see the whole whites of his eyes. He has definitely tried to commit seppuku with a vegetable peeler

Passive aggressiveness doesn't bother me. The thing about chef meltdowns isn't that they bother me, it's more that when people are embarrassing themselves I get very uncomfortable. I want to cook professionally but I can't do it if my boss is cringe

it only worked for me and ive built and sold a restaurant and im a head chef currently. started dishwashing when i was 16, moved up. The fact you guys think you need a fuckin degree to make a cheeseburger and grill a steak says more about your intelligence than my naivety

You walk in and say "I will make you more money for you than anybody with experience. I work harder, think better, and within a year will be the most valuable member of your organization." Then you are being so brazenly obnoxious that they think you must know something they don't, so they give you a try. Then all you have to do is invest in sex trafficking and you'll be mega rich.

OP, there is a perception of food service work and in other fields as well that is portrayed on TV and by other jerkoffs trying to be edgy and talking shit or whatever, but a "cruel work environment" has not really been an acceptable thing since probably before you were born.

Workplace harassment can lead to serious fines for your employer, and potentially big money awarded to you.

Actually this has come up on this board enough times, I'll tell you all what to do.

If your employer is acting inappropriately, and that includes yelling at you, insulting you, discriminating against you for any reason... file a report with your state bureau of labor. Whether or not you have proof, this will allow you to stand up for yourself without being fired and your employer will have to have a good reason to fire you; otherwise you can claim retaliation which is actually a really big deal. I guarantee you there are posters hanging in your workplace that mention this.

To take it a step further, if you can obtain any kind of proof, you can cause your employer to be massively fined, and you will be awarded money for this. Your employer will still not be able to fire you, even after paying out.

Don't forget that you have rights! Nobody has to put up with abuse in the workplace!
