What do you like to do with the rest of your green onions? Anything simple? Usually garnish calls for about two stalks, but they usually come in bundles of six and start to wilt within two weeks.

use them in stock/ramen, freeze if they're starting to turn and use them later
I sometimes tie a stalk up in a little bow type deal and roast it with the rest of whatever meal I'm making.
they're good in toasted sandwiches or kebabs/wraps.

They usually end up in fried rice or in some eggs as a side dish – just fry them for a few minutes, crack a couple eggs over and a splash of soy sauce. Or slice them up fine with some ginger or garlic, pour smoking hot oil over and you have a great dipping sauce for dumplings or meat.
If you want them to keep longer, you can keep them in a jar with a little shallow water over the roots.

If you want a more substantial recipe, make scallion pancakes.

I chop them all at the same time and put them in a tupperware in the fridge, I never had them go bad before I could use them all this way

Basically, just throw them in omlets and oriental noodles. They continuously grow in a little pot I planted them in. Just snip off as much as I need and more grows.

Never throw thepreteensex bottoms away, just plant in a little pot.

I never knew this, but if you roast them in an oven with some salt and oil like you would any other vegetable they are SO GOOD

Seriously, just put the bottoms in a little pot of soil and they will continuously grow as fast as grass.

don't they just end up tasting like water this way?

I haven't noticed. They naturally can keep regrowing. Maybe if the soil isn't as rich anymore. I mean, I've been using the same soil for two years and it keeps coming. I've only replaced the plants once. (Vacation)

So you are probably right if bad soil, but if it was really bad it wouldn't grow fast at all. Get a little all purpose liquid fertilizer and dilute/spray innit.

>> No.18892197

If you do the water only method it will eventually stop growing after three or 4 regrows bc no new nutrients.

This actually works best in the liquid fertilizer solution used for hydroponics. Grows significantly faster/stronger than in just water or dirt.

I use the whole thing as an actual seasoning, chopped and mixed with the rest, garnishing is retarded

I just put them raw in sandwiches. Goes with all sorts of things to add a bit of crunch and zing.
