Homegrown Mutt here who graciously joined the ranks of Straya almost 18 years ago now and it took me a good while to come around to some of your pommy-inspired bland food, but I have to say everything terrible about Bri'ish food is, if not perfect, at least much better in Australia.

I've even started making my own pies and my Merrican friends still don't understand it. Aussie pies are the shit. Even the cheep servo Mrs Mac's are fucking a-ma-zing.

just barely flaky on the outside but still moist and doughy on the inside. for a savoury pie it works for me. my mother back in the USA makes the best apple pies (which don't exist in Aus outside Maccas) and hers are all flake through but that's just great for sweets

You should give it a try Anon. Went over for a cousins wedding and did a sort of road trip thing. So many places along the road sold great, on location made pies with all sorts of variety and freshness. Aus pies all taste like frozen garbage now. I think it was because local small time places here are all owned by Chinks who just do the bare minimum and would rather sell sugary crap to fatties. Most of the places in NZ seemed to be owned by older white people, Asian places were around but they definitely had to actually try harder.

not really anon, I've been all around this wonderful c'untry; more than most of my friends. I used to do overnight trips for work all up through the Hunter and New England, all around ACT and the Snowys, etc. Never on my travels have I seen things like pickerel.

Now I live back in (North)Sydney in a townhouse at the edge of a sandstone cliff in one of the National Parks and life is wonderful. Such that I avoid areas of distaste, like Western Sydney.
