>move in with new roommates
>they think they're "too good" for nonstick pans
>keep buying all these expensive cast irons and carbon steels
>they never take care of the pans and clean or season them properly so food sticks like fucking crazy to them
>have to blast everything at high heat to hope nothing sticks to them, still doesnt work half the time
>trying to do something as simple as cooking eggs in the morning turns into a huge fucking mess
These things are a fucking meme, there is no such thing as low and slow on them, they're a huge pain in the ass to take care of. idk what would possess you to use this shit for anything besides searing a steak or something. Fuck this shit.

Imagine being too retarded to take care of a cast iron and complain about it on a food and cooking board. Of course you actually need to know how to cook, but you don't need that reddit tier shit of using a whole day to make 7 layers or whatever. It's a tiny bit of carefulness if there's no seasoning on it at all, when you got it it's not going away unless you do some dumb shit.

I have an opinion on pans. It looks like you could toss these bad boys into the oven. Most home pans have stupid plastic on them.

It's good if you need something with a high thermal mass.

>> No.18827659

you said it yourself they don't take care of them or season them properly

if you put orange juice in a car instead of gasoline it wont run, use more fat/oil when you fry your eggs if you don't want them sticking, dont want to use that much oil? dont fucking fry an egg then or buy a non stick

Doesn't he have an electric stove? You need cast iron on those.

The reality is that people have have had them in their family for generations and literally grew up with their mother and grandmother using these. Not everyone of course, but just because you come from a broken home without culture doesn't mean that everyone that has culture picked it up on reddit, that's pure projection.

it's weird to even want an old iron pan
they aren't even expensive

this.
plus stainless steel for sauces, stuff sticking to stainless steel is obviously a positive if youre going to deglaze it afterwards.
and i just prefer to not use nonstick if im making something that wont stick anyways

>oh my cast iron looks practically new and there's nothing wrong with it but it's old so I have to buy a new pan
It's weird to buy new things to replace old ones, just because they are old and without any other reason at all. Naturally it's common to replace them if for some reason it's needed, which is practically never.

A part of me thinks that OP is the persistent /ck/ cast iron troll, trying to start new shit after a few days of being ignored, but then I see something like
>>they never take care of the pans and clean or season them properly so food sticks like fucking crazy to them
>>have to blast everything at high heat to hope nothing sticks to them, still doesnt work half the time
and I'm not entirely convinced she doesn't just want to learn, but is really obtuse about asking for help, so she posts something stupid and hopes to be corrected. I'm guessing that the "roommates" are a storytelling device she uses to talk about her own experience using any non-teflon pans.
