ITT: actually good local places
Tourist normies come to east TN/SW VA and eat a 16 dollar mediocre burger when pic related is where all the locals dine

Pals is decent. But for the most part Tennessee is easily one of the worst states in America for dining out. There's a very tiny exception, but for the most part it's fucking BAD. The majority of towns have at best fast food and a Chinese place that's failed 3 of the last 10 health inspections and it's currently only open by a passing grade of 71. If you're "lucky" enough to have a mom + pop diner it'll be exclusively Sysco slop and they will NOT be able to cook over easy eggs. Love me Tennessee, but 99% of good meals in this state are made at home.

It's just fast food the way it's supposed to be. Nothing special, except it is. Fast, cheap, tasty. The best part is the sauce that has liquid smoke.

can echo this. Love visiting the state but the food is absolutely god awful. Straight up slop, and usually super bad for you as well.

Trying to "be like the locals" is usually not something to be admired.
Real people in said local area are not eating the tourist shit of the area. They are eating common sloppa just like everyone else, because money, indeed, is an issue.
If you are traveling, be a good little tourist and eat from the menu that was promoted.

I don't know about you but the tourist restaurants here are shit. Shitty food that's overpriced managed by people that absolutely hate the locals. Funny enough to the contrary of the anons saying TN has no good food spots, I have to cross over into TN to eat anywhere worth spending my money on.
