Seriously, you have people out there whining about everything being so expensive but, all they buy is processed garbage and not actual raw ingredients to cook with? That would be the cheaper thing to do.

Laziness. My initial thought was the lack of drive to learn, but that can be boiled down as a product of laziness. Instead of applying the effort to better yourself and learn a basic, fundamental skill, why not just pay someone to provide the end product and skip all the effort involved? Grab that immediate gratification and choose to be willfully ignorant of how it's produced.

dough is a great place to start, you start by making simple loaves then expand to dinner rolls, pizza, cinnamon rolls, ect.

the hardest part is the dough itself which is insanely cheap making the cost of failure quite small.

take this pepperoni pizza i made an hour ago, it wasn't even $5 to make and $3 was just the cheese.

The preservative-filled "dough" you think of when you see it in your local shartmart is not the same thing as making your own bread products with basic ingredients. Turns out when you create something meant to be eaten within a day or two, the composition is a lot different than creating something meant to last weeks so that it can make it from a factory to a truck to a store to wait for you to happen to buy it.

I think it's very easy to get used to convenience. I'm Russian and here people had little choice, you needed to be able cook. Many people also had other skills like sewing, working with tools, etc., because you needed to be self sufficient because life was harder.
But in America, people never bothered—they had enough disposable income, food and restaurants, so they got lazy. They just made excuses that "they don't have time", but even welfare fags who do nothing all day say that. "I do only what I want" mentality also means people will rather eat addictive goyslop than ever cook or eat healthy. And it doesn't matter that it costs way more than cooking, because "what are you, poor?" and "muh $$$ saved in time cooking" .
all in all, good times create weak men.

One of the things that stopped me back when I was poor was how much of an up-front cost cooking has. It's not a barrier if you're dedicated but it is going to stop someone with a casual interest.

>Cooking meals takes time most people don't have
Thats just a lie, most people just don't want to spend the time cooking. They always have time to check instagram, twerk, eat hot chips, bullshit on the internet, and watch the next netflix episode. Decent cooks can cook just about anything under 30 minutes for dinner. Breakfast and lunch doesn't have to be anything convoluted, but 30 minutes to make and eat is way more than even I spend.

People want the easy way; its easier to tap the phone for 2 minutes and have doordash show up with a hamburger 30 minutes later than to plan ahead, have beef, buns and cheese and just make it yourself.

Imagine all the things parents would be teaching their children if there wasn't sources of electronic entertainment in the home. Seriously, imagine coming home from school and your parents come home from work, and you have nothing to do but sit and talk, do work around the house and outside, and prepare supper. The only sounds would be the crickets, the screen door shutting, occasional clanks of dishes, and people talking.

>> No.18777817

>Why are people so resistant to cooking?
Mostly because most people's parents were retarded and never made it a point to teach them how to cook. Also they themselves sucked at cooking so their kids thought homecooked food is shit. Also men and women might have shirked cooking for retarded ideological reasons ("it's for women", or "it's oppressive").

And it was enabled by society in general. Society is inundated by corporate advertisements and media that tells you how cooking at home is lame and getting restaurant food is cool. They tell you to just buy "cheap" shitty food instead of bothering with "expensive" and time consuming cooking.

>> No.18777818

It's not like the concept of entertainment never existed, anon. There's a huge difference between passing an hour reading a book or playing some game or sitting and talking to unwind or relax and passing an entire day doing those same things because you're too lazy to do anything else. Your whole point rests on this idea of a parent wanting to teach their kid instead of sending them off to 60 different schools, clubs, cram sessions and then plop them in front of a console or a phone so they fuck off until it's bed time. If a parent wants to teach they'll teach, if not then a child at that age has no drive to go out and seek some skill they'll never know they wanted until they're older because they've been sat in front of countless lessons to subjects they have no idea why they're being taught and all they want to do is have some fun.

Even, say, 20 years ago, parents were still in control of what their kids saw or did. If corporations wanted kids to see their content, parents had to approve first and let their kid see (like letting them watch the TV, for example).
Now corporate media directly captures children's brains through the internet via smartphones, parents are cut out of the picture. They can directly talk to children, tell them what to believe, etc. And if you bar them from having a phone, you're socially crippling them and they'll hate you while finding secret ways to do it anyway, because all the other kids are doing it so they must too. And they'll be even less interested in learning anything from you. No matter what you do, you lose.

Bullshit. I shop at a value-centric grocer and buy virtually entirely produce, unprocessed cuts of meat, (entire birds, skin-on, bone-in dark meat, entire loin cuts), maybe some italian bread or pitas, and the occasional pantry staples for a household for two and I end up shelling out over a $100 MINIMUM per shopping trip.

I hope for that realization but you look at retarded areas like democrat controlled strongholds full of people complaining about how shitty life is there, then vote for the same exact people that make life shitty there. Alternatively they move out of the shitholes then vote for the same people who made their prior shithole.

Yeah, my old lady neighbour complains about food prices all the time, especially whenever i take her to the store with me. Saw her just now as i was coming in and she asked me if I was going shopping tomorrow. She said the last time she cooked was Thanksgiving, which is weird because we had the bitch round ours for it so idk wtf she's talking about.

Anyway, we mostly cook from scratch but I'd be lying if i said that i don't buy packaged junk every now and again. Like yesterday. Bought a gigantic frozen enchilada platter thing for $4.44. 52oz, i think. Maybe larger. Idfk. But if it wasn't so cheap, i wouldn't have bothered. I spent $12 on a pound of cucumbers, half of tomatoes, half of bananas, one of cherries and three of clementines. $2/for produce ain't bad, I'd say.

My babymomma seldom buys packaged food except stock cubes and pickles.

For me it was a lack of time and so eating (outside of a restaurant) became simply "refueling" and so I kinda train myself to eat processed food.

Because when I got my own place, I was working 10 hour days six days a week and when you factor in drive time (1 hour) lunch (1/2 hour) morning and evening prep (1 hour), half my day was gone and I still had to set aside 8 hours for sleep, leaving me a grand total of 3.5 hours to live my personal life, thus cooking became a chore that needed to be minimized.

Now if you enjoy chopping, peeling, stirring, prepping, washing, shopping and the rest involved in making a "home cooked" meal, then more power to you but I needed to maximize what little personal time I had and that meant cooking and eating had to be as quick and easy as possible.

Don't get me wrong, I like _eating_ a good meal but I have no interest in all work involved in making it myself.

tbf your country is a very very good argument against free market/democracy and a lot of other stuff, your fatty rate is through the roof, many american products are geared to either milk investors or milk money out of most likely consumers, rarely creating something of value..

even you r aware that atleast 50% and likely more of americans are unironically retarded or borderline retarded malleable consumer cattle with little to no individual thinking, a hive mentality and 0 challenge to authority, worsened by extreme obsession with politics and constant doomsday viewings also drawing attention to your country, not at all helped by the memes true or not of your country having a platinum steel boner for any oil possible and fucking its own citizens over and messing with wars/unnecessarily extending them to turn them into puppets (subjective on my part) *cough* ukraine *cough
this also incurrs a lot of scapegoating/anti-american propaganda from other countries, often countries like russia or china because like it or not (i don't) a lot of american stereotypes are genuinely true and not memes based on shitty memes stirred up during a war some few decades ago to raise morale.

and i would like to remind anyone that i'm not trying to screech 'waah filthy amuricanuu ;(((', i genuinely pity your country and understand that many of you are not like the stereotypes, and i am not saying other countries are perfect either, just an attempt at a rational explanation. and your probably mainly defend it because the ones that cry about americans construct their arguments badly, grouping you with the less capable of your society and putting you at fault for the shortcomings of your own government..and that your country is very patriotic which probably rubbed off on you..,.

oops. i hit the 2000 letter mark.. apologies. ill delete some stuff to make space/.,

Because cooking food is usually not cheaper or tastier than buying it pre-made, and I don't mean eating Pringles, but there are deals on ready-made meals.

All portions at the grocery store for individual ingredients, especially of fresh foods, are made for a family of four, or at least two people, unless you like eating the same meal 4 times in a row. If you have a family to feed, you can probably save money and do it efficiently. I just get sick of buying a big pack of 12 chicken breasts when I literally only wanted one of the goddamn things, or an entire cucumber when I just need three slices as a garnish, or $5 for a container of a spice that's needed for a particular dish, when I will only be using a tiny portion of it before it expires. With food inflation in the past couple years getting so out of hand, it is literally so expensive to buy food, even if I stick with just the basics (milk, bread, meat, eggs, potatoes--no prepared food, no spices, no sides, no flavor) that I'm going into debt before I get my next paycheck.

You’re not cooking for Gordon Ramsay and you’re not constructing computer chips, you can do multiple things at once if you’re not a brainlet.
