At work when they're that small I just grab them by the hind legs and adminnister blunt force trauma (it's considered humane way of euthanizing) lift them over my back, and smash their head as hard as I can off the floor.

It's gonna get blood and brain shooting all over the floor in an arc as it flops around in death throws.

If I were planning on eating it, bolt gun, then immediately slit it's throat before the death throws.

Idk, these 20 somethings doing dumb shit and have the acting skills of someone reading off index cards they've never read beforehand in front of their 6th grade class must pull in toddler views.

Anyway pig farming has made me like pigs, even if the end result is they end up being bacon after 2 maybe 4 months tops. I'd take a pet one if they weren't expensive and/or grow to be huge.

I got half a pig last january, and I'm just now finishing up the meat.

Where do you work that you're killing but not eating livestock? Curious.

A pig farm.

I got an award for my last heard, >97% of 4000 pigs made it to the kill plant (slaughter house) grade A, meaning no absesses, no ruptures, no light weights, etc. I was medicating them good.

They get killed because we receive them at 50 lbs, but some are junk, they come off the truck much lighter and will never make the target weight, they break legs, some lose their sense of balance and never get it back so it's cruel to keep them living, belly ruptures, anal and vaginal prolapse, I get rid of boars (pigs with balls) when we find them because the meat will suck so they're useless to us, some just get too sick and aren't responding to medication, etc.
I mostly kill them for pain, but sometimes because there's no point feeding them. If I didn't they'd just be culled in a month or two.

Interesting. Don't know how I'd desensitize myself to the smell or butcher's work, hell just gutting a turkey I shot was shitty work, but I appreciate it.

The slaughter house butchers them. I just have to kill them sometimes, like maybe 3 a week.
I didn't feel good about it at first, but now I don't feel anything about it really.

I stopped smelling it at all after my first week.

It feeds tons of people, I like the job a lot honestly. Lots of repairing stuff, general farm work too, projects my boss has us do, like build a grain bin floor one time, that was quite a thing for 4 people who'd never done it to do. I like the variety.

I was a soft neet for years before doing farmwork anyway. My only previous jobs were mcdonalds, arby's, and dishwasher.
I was working when I got the plaque for a little over 2 years. I was part time help in an situation they really needed it, I eventually was full time and in charge of the pigs because I knew it was one of my last shots at getting my shit together, I'd lost 70 lbs (was 250 alcoholic) leading up to the job.

That's enough blog. I get excited talking about work.

They used to send them to cull plants with the lights and non-grade As before covid happened. I have no clue what they do with them, if they wanted them dead they'd tell us to do it rather than waste the diesel fuel. Idk why covid made them not cull worthy anymore, I guess they just don't wanna buy them now.

I always guessed they were just added to pet food or repurposed in some way that wasn't for human consumption.

Their ass or pussy falls out, this usually happens when they're young, or they get sick, cough a lot and really hard, and end up pushing their ass out.

They're easy to find as pigs in the pen will have blood on them from it.

My boss showed me how to fix them, you split them in half like a tomato then fit castration bands (I've never cut nuts off) over the two halves, make sure there's still a hole, and isolate them while it rots off, give them an antibiotic shot. I've never done this, the owners of the pigs who lease are barn's policy is to just euthanize the prolapses rather than fix them.

I could see how that'd work.
