40s are absolutely perfect for getting drunk cheap as fuck. If you just want to get regular drunk you just drink one, if you want to get blasted you drink two. The shits are like maybe $2 a piece so you can drink as much or as little as you like and just throw away the rest, you're not wasting any amount of money you'd even bother to fish under your carseat for if you lost it. Too bad they seem to be going out of style and finding glass bottles is becoming harder. They're something tasty you can relax and drink while you converse with people or eat or something and just loosen up a little. It's not healthy, but if you can make it work it's the lesser of a lot of evils. I couldn't do it, though. I'd either drink 30 light beers or I'd give up after a few and go get some malt liquor.

For some people drinking is running a marathon; for me it's the 100-yard dash. Once I get a little bit of alcohol in me, I feel an irresistible compulsion to drink a lot very fast until smashed. It wasn't that way in my first few years of drinking, but it has been for the last twenty. So I could never make any harm reduction work.

As for your waiting to stop, I guess you've decided alcohol is adding something worthwhile to your life. Nothing wrong with that, if it's true. Those first few years of drinking were awfully sweet for me, so if you're still getting that I can understand why you would want to salvage it rather than cut it out entirely.
