>grocery store has 50 cash registers and self checkout lanes
>literally only a single self checkout lane and 2 cash registers are open
>line snakes all the way to the dairy section in the back

what's the point of having all those checkout lanes if THEY'RE NEVER FUCKING OPEN?

I unironically think about how far we've come in 80 years except for this shit right here

0 innovation in the process of shopping, except those shitty self-checkout stations. 80 years with almost 0 innovation.

why aren't my groceries lifted up by a robot
why isn't my shopping cart getting scanned 360 and every item is recognized by an AI system that bills me

why do i gotta put shit up to the register like its 1960

shopping is UNIRONICALLY the one thing we all do that has been stuck in a time loop

I forgot when the switch happened, but way back when a bunch of stores would just have a counter with clerks and big back area that customers couldn't access. You'd tell the clerk what you wanted and they'd bring you your stuff and check you out.

With some of the rampant theft going on, I wonder if stores will switch back to the old model

Like what? If you steal $100 worth of food (more than what you can eat in 1 week), that'd be over 2 years of stealing $100 from walmart weekly. No way you are that consistent. Lying faggot.

Cashier shortage.

>Nobody wants to work.

They do, but they don't want to be cashiers and cashier training cannot be forced upon them.
