Broccoli is good if you add it to other shit, like a stir fry or curry. Just a neutral veggie flavor and slight firmness.
But its not exactly the best part of the meal if youre served raw or blanched and unseasoned broccoli on the side like many kids were.

>>18643445
I've never examined the florets and also never noticed any bad flavor or ill health effects because of it. Literally who cares if you happen to eat a tiny speck of bug.

BAD PARENTING.
Broccoli that is poorly cooked so it smells like a sulfur fart, is super mushy because of being overcooked or being frozen, too old, stemmy/fibrous, or simply undersalted, underseasoned, etc. It tastes like shit food, it IS shit food. Then they give a plate of this shit to am impressionable child, where it sits until cold and even more unappetizing, then proceed to get angry, yell at the child, deny dessert, and shove this bad broccoli down their fucking throat. And God know what else they did.
CHILDHOOD TRAUMA is the cause, the broccoli hater that YOU know is a child abuse victim. Its time to start asking questions about exactly what happened back then.

I never understood why kids don't like things like peas and broccoli. I understand kids have an aversion to bitter foods, myself included, I couldn't stand things like coffee flavour, dark leafy greens, etc, but things like peas and broccoli always tasted relatively sweet to me if cooked properly and not particularly bitter. I'd hazard a guess it's to do with a lack of discipline and proper eating habits, meaning the child can't differentiate between "I don't like it" and "it's not the salty/fatty/carb combination I'm craving right now". If a kid says he doesn't like peas, most of the time what they're really saying is that they have chicken nuggets on the brain, or mashed potatoes and gravy, or ice cream. I can't imagine there are many kids who naturally find peas legitimately disgusting.

>> No.18647348

>>18643451
Depends who you're serving it to. Raw cruciferous vegetables like broccoli are naturally quite bitter, whereas boiling them allows some of the bitter-tasting compounds to be released, without adding more bitterness from the frying/roasting. So if you're serving it to someone who doesn't particularly like bitter foods, you're better off boiling it until soft, which while it wasn't my favourite thing to eat, was never unpalatable.

Dumb lazy americans served it raw and gave all their kids PTSD and then spread that PTSD as propaganda on TV. If I ever have kids I'm steaming that shit with a bit of butter, salt and pepper, I bet they'll be obsessed with it like I am.

broccoli soup is great. Boil fresh florets in salted water for about 4 mins
pour into blender, care for water amount and mix
season with salt pepper and olive oil

over broccolis with lemon zest and parmesan is pretty good

Boil Broccolis for a minute and then cooked slowly in butter for 10mins is pretty good

Peas suck, they're not disgusting but they're just not good. I'd eat them if I were starving but I'd never consume them by choice. Their addition in dishes only serves to make the dish slightly worse and eating a pile of peas on their own is a downright unpleasant experience. Broccoli is fine though, it can suck if it's made wrong but can be a good addition to a meal when made right.

Unironically that exact scenario, how he framed it, probably happened to a lot of people though. Unfortunately a lot of parents just get angry and yell at their kids over petty shit, usually taking their anger out on them. It sucks but it's really common. Almost every poorly adjusted adult you see probably has emotional trauma, which means a lot of fucking people nowadays.
