What treats do you get at your neighborhood Italian bakery?

>> No.18587830

Rainbow cookies, linzer tarts, canolis and Lady fingers

There is quite literally not a single Italian bakery in my city. That’s because I don’t live in Wogville.

Bismarks, cannoli, eclairs, ricotta pie, lobster tails. They do it all.

I didn’t even know Italian bakeries were a thing? What’s the quintessential Italian baked good?

wish I had a french bakery in my city. italians can't compete with eclairs, macarons or croissants (real hand made ones) - nobody can

I don't usually go to the bakery here, there's a lot of Italian delis around here though.

I live near one of those ones that there’s a reality show about.
All I tried was the cannolis and cake.
The cannoli was good, but the cake was both good and unique. The frosting was much less sweet than normal frosting, as a tradeoff with the actual cake being much sweeter. It was perfect.

Cannolis at a restaurant and wedding cookies at home.
My grandma from Sicily basically never made sweets though.

Cannoli > eclairs, and croissants aren’t even a dessert.
Macarons are a tie.

I don't get the point of these tiny teeny pastries (or idk how it's called in English). If I want to eat something sweet, I will opt for something with a decent weight/calorie ratio so I have more if than just one bite, so things more on the sweet bread side than the cake side. And for this Panettone is perfect.

The absolute best Italian desert is tiramisu, of course.

What? You've never heard of it. I've always wanted it but no local places does it and I cba going into the city to get it (assuming they do it, I know there are a few places that does good baklava). A local supermarket does Basque cheesecake which is great so I get that if I'm on a cheesecake mood. I could order one online but...

But it is as much as you'd expect it to be.

The thing is, I'm surrounded by a lot of middle eastern/mediterranean confectioners that sell many kinds of baklava and turkish delights etc, but I've never come across a baklava cheesecake, and to be honest, it sounds like a very interesting combination.

>> No.18590360

>>18590334
Yeah I guess it prob doesn't keep very well compared to regular baklava. I've wanted it because I like cheesecake but alas. You're lucky, West Asian/Med cuisine is pretty interesting.

I'm sure if you could make small individual ones or a big one that you could slice up you could sell it pretty well. Check online, some places allow you to order a whole one (doubt you'll eat the lot though so if you're having a party). Or perhaps ask the local places if you're a regular if they ever thought about doing it. The issue is they all fight over who has authentic baklava.

WHY DOES EVERYTHING HAVE TO HAVE CALORIES? I specifically avoid bakeries ans patisseries because of this shit. I'm not even fat or overweight. Dark road to go down...

there is nothing better in the world than an espresso with one or two macarons. not the dry old supermarket macarons but freshly made ones that are not more than 1 day old.
the only downside is the price but it takes so much effort to make them it's impossible to make them on cheap, just like croissants

Cookies, I like the tricolor ones, napoleones, mini tarts if they have them.

nearest bakery deli to me is Jewish, they have most of the same stuff and it's good. I usually get croissants, bagels, and bread rolls. Their cookies are good too.

Zeppole is good from Italian street fairs. I've never gotten them from bakerys, it seems like they'd have been sitting around too long.
