Scotch has a really wide range of flavors. Lots of people hate it cuz they try it three times and don't luck into one that 'hits' for them. But if you do find one you like, it's amazing and complex. Lots of flavors goin on. But if you're in the US it'll be 2x as much as bourbon, so everyone will consider you a snob.

Costco has had a fucking awful selection of whisky the past two times I've gone.
I've gotten a lot of great whiskies at incredible prices from Costco over the years, from $37 Laphroaig 10 (which they have always carried for years), to $60 Lagavulin 16, to $45 Woodford Reserve Double Oaked, to $45 Old Forester 1920, to $50 Redbreast Lustau Edition.
Last two times I've gone I left empty handed. Fucking nothing. Almost all bourbons, none cask strength, none particularly interesting/different/unique. Very few scotches, and all were 80 proof, bland, flavorless dogshit, the kind normies swoon over how "smooth" it is.
Absolutely nothing fucking interesting at all. They don't even carry the Laphroaig now. All they have now is stuff with weak, uninteresting, light flavor profiles intended to appeal to the masses.

It really reminds me of old rundown but still-in-service hospitals which have seen some shit over the many decades they’ve been around. It’s almost like a drug. This is going to become a longtime favourite of mine; I feel so calm now, so relaxed… I feel like I’m in tranquility lane; so many fond memories began to resurface while I was enjoying my glass. Feels like I’m back in the good old days when things were simpler for me. Highly recommended. The problem with these graphs is that there are objective measures of smokiness and they never align with these charts, and the richness often aligns with amount of time spent in a sherry barrel instead of actual taste (better a first fill finish than 12 years in a 4th fill). For this chart that just mentions richness I'd have to argue that Ardbeg is richer than Lagavulin (despite the presumed lack of sherry) because it is nuttier.

Opinion on Johnnie Walker Green Label? I’ve read here and there on quite a few places that it’s the only
JW worth your cash and I’ve been meaning to try something a little different other than my typical single malt scotch. Also pondering venturing into Bourbon, any suggestions on where to start? My typical flavour profile is that I like flavours on the extreme ends, so on a typical whisky map/chart most of my bottles will be right in the ends/corners no matter the taste (thus if I want something peaty then I want it mega-peaty, or if I want it fruity then I want it fruity to the max). My current bottle I’m enjoying on most drinking days is Laphroaig 10 & Glenfiddich 18.

No Johnnie Walker is for you. They go for balanced flavor profiles.
Regarding non-peated whiskies, I'd try A'bunadh and Glendronach 12/15. You should like those; super flavorful sherrybombs.
>Also pondering venturing into Bourbon, any suggestions on where to start?
Old Grand-Dad 114, Woodford Reserve Double Oaked, Old Forester 1920.

Depends on price in your area.
I find it's quite lacking in intensity (much like monkey shoulder) and it costs just a much as a nice single malt.
I'd much rather go for a compass box since they seem to be able to keep the intensity in tact.
I don't get why it's so light, each of the ingredients in Green are fine themselves. I sorta suspect some grain whisky makes its way in despite the bottles claims.

Whats the deal with this Kentucky Gentleman STRAIGHT bourbon.
Apparently it's known as a blended bourbon but apparently the one you get here is labeled as a straight bourbon (and most pics on google have the blended label)

Do they get away with selling the blend as a straight bourbon outside of America or do they actually make a blend AND a straight?

No idea about Dalmore, but I wouldn't value his opinion too much. Being so blunt in saying that Talisker is bad (without any explanation) really shows how much he's being mindlessly influenced by board culture. Diageo is constantly shit on here (maybe rightfully so), and Talisker in particular seems to be some kind of meme, still it's not a bad whisky by any means. It hits that particular spot, haven't quite found a whisky like it. Particular taste, somewhat peaty, salty, abv. spot on for sipping, not too expensive either? Whatever, just like what you like and ignore other people's tastes if they're different from yours.

Baron de Sigognac, Cles des Ducs, Chateau de Lacquy, Chateau Laubade and single vineyard Darroze are all top tier. Armagnac is probably my favorite liquor, it's a really perfect balance between the complexity and elegance of cognac and the intensity of whisky (armagnac uses a different type of still than cognac, and is distilled fewer times; it also tends to be bottled at higher strength, and is often available cask-strength). Vintage dated armagnac (where a year of harvest is on the label rather than an age statement) tends to be the highest quality.

A good starting point might be vintage Castarede- it's widely available, not too expensive, and has a lot of deep spice flavors that take it into the same realm as a dark sherried malt. Delord is another solid easily available choice.

I actually just bought a bottle of Delord yesterday (Viele Armagnac 1982). Armagnac can be a little tricky to get where I live as it isn’t a popular beverage so when I found someone nearby selling this I figured fuck it I’ll give it a try. Probably won’t open the bottle too soon though as I’m currently playing around with whisky. Thank you based fellow Armagnac drinker.

Aardvark sauce was constantly mocked here though. To be fair at least it's cheapish though so the neets here can buy it. If you're marketing whisky here then how are you going to make any money? Hoping that a few people ask for Talisker from mummy and daddy for Christmas?

You would make much more shilling on Facebook and Reddit, userbases are huge compared to here. Sure there are fucktons of posts here but the board moves quite slowly.

The flipside of this is that people on 4chan are surprisingly more erudite than pretty much any userbase and are unlikely to buy entry level shit like Talisker if they have the money and interest to drink single malt.

definitely wouldnt recommend Quinta Ruban as your first scotch, although the Glenmorangie 10 or 12 Lasanta will probably be fine intros.

It's hard to describe what you will get compared to bourbon. Glenmorangie has a sampler set that gives 4 bottles for about the price of a normal bottle.

none of them are peated so dont worry about smokey/ashy/tarry flavors unless that sounds interesting in which case they also offer an Ardbeg sampler for a little more.

once you get whatever you get, pour it next to your regular drink and do a side by side comparison to get the best effect.
