Man living a world before psychiatrists and psychology must've been wild. People just thought you were possessed by demons or had imbalances in your chi.

To be fair, some of the shit psychology has come up with as a "treatment" for mental illness has been terrifying in its own right - snake pits, electroshock therapy, narcotic enemas, lobotomies, widely proscribing mind altering drugs where we have extremely limited knowledge on how they actually work, and so on.

I know he's talking about absinth; that's kind of a famous a Van Gogh painting. My point is that pastis is basically the same thing without the thujone, which means that the supposed "psychedelic" didn't stop it from being a popular drink. Both absinth and pastis turn a cloudy white when you add water.

But is it good?

Electroshock therapy is actually good tho. People hate it because when it doesn't work (30%) it is exhausting. When it works you usually forget a non trivial ammount of memories, which can be a bit difficult to live through, but it still is better than to live with a life long depression in many cases. Its not really understood, but the practice works and gets results consistently. Its a hard choice to make tho. Would you give up 10% of all that you remember for the possibility of living a life without being depressed beyond alleviation ? I know people who wouldn't.

Most of the bad reputation comes from its misuse and its origin as a treatment for schizophrenia, on which it is very limited.
