Well, he needs to mix all of the dry ingredients together, besides the sugar. Get rid of the oil, and creme the butter and sugar. And it looks like he got quite a bit of gluten development by overmixing, and who knows, he might have used too much baking soda. Muffins are pretty easy and forgiving, but their are a few techniques and concepts that you have to know first.
