Yes, it's definitely true. The problem is, we eat so much food, so often, that the digestive system gets overwhelmed and is forced to evacuate before all the calories can get converted to bodyfat. To counteract that, we usually have some emergency snacks in the bathroom to eat on the toilet. Gotta keep that metabolism going!
