18344495 No.18344495 [Reply] [Original]

The idea that a rice cooker cooks rice better a person is an outright lie.

Rice tastes like rice regardless if it was cooked by a machine or a person.

A rice cooker is a good appliance for people who live in dorms or small spaces, college students, or people who don't have access to a proper stove.

But, provided the person does not suffer from some kind of developmental problem, the end result wil be the same.

rice cookers make perfect or near-perfect rice every single time with minimal effort and zero oversight during the actual cooking.

Rice cookers ALSO allow me to make rice early in the morning, eat some for breakfast, take some to work for lunch, AND come home to still-hot and fresh rice sitting in my rice cooker from that morning ready for dinner.

Rice cookers do cook rice better than you can. They are perfectly controlling the amount of air that can escape. They also heat more evenly and compensate for too little or too much water. They have programmed cooking cycles that can change based on feedback from the cooking vessel. Rice cookers pre programmed settings also can cook something like brown rice for long periods at lower temperatures and then ramp up to finish the rice so you end up with a firm fully cooked kernel which is very difficult to do correctly on the stove. On top of this you have to do nothing and it even stays warm when its done. Basically you are a fucking retard and you are wrong.

Very ignorant comment, please delete.
Rice cookers are literally just pots with a heating element.
You can make bread, eggs, soups and sauces and all manner of steaming in them.

YOU are the problem with "unitaskers" not the appliance.

There's nothing wrong with having an appliance that cooks perfectly consistent and good rice at the touch of a button each time.

I finally got one of these expensive rice cookers.
There is definitely a difference in the quality of texture, but it's pretty minor. Unless you are an Asian it's probably not that important of an upgrade. The automation also removes any guesswork and you will never get the wrong ratio or temp, it's very dummy-proof and even if you are like me and only slightly botch a pot of rice maybe one in 20 times then it's still an upgrade.
Objectively not worth it unless you consume rice regularly. If you do then it's probably a good get.

for my rice cooker i use 1.5: 1(thai jasmine long grain rice)
if its too dry use more water
if its too wet use less water
different types of rice need different amounts
also, LET IT REST (keep warm) at least 20 mins after the rice cooker is done. Often the excess moisture will be readsorbed into the rice, turning it from mushy to perfectly fluffy.

I have this. First, use the actual plastic cup that came with it for the rice. Fill the pot with water to the corresponding level. Then add about a half cup extra water. You can make it a personal rule to add a certain amount of extra water depending on how moist you want it. But you have to use the little plastic cup for measuring the rice, otherwise you'll add too much. I've made rice in this maybe 50 times, after a few batches I found adding a half cup of water on top the water level 4, with 4 plastic cup measures of dry rice, works perfectly.
