we had a kid whose mother cut the crust off his sandiwches in our high school group and indeed he was bullied and made fun of. i never bullied him but i never successfully befriended him either. i thought he was really boring and uninteresting and his attempts at humor always fell flat, i just never found conversations or attempts at getting close to him fulfilling.
but anyway, at 35 i've never dated or had sex and he's a pretty successful programmer with two kids.
not that i begrudge him that, over the years i've become convinced my failings are entirely my own. just making an observation
