If you think cantaloupe and honeydew are terrible then you've probably only eaten them when they were underripe. Pick a melon that feels heavy for its size and wait until it feels a bit soft before eating. Avoid precut melon as it's almost always from underripe ones.

Cantaloupe is definitely top tier, but my favorite fruit is persimmon. I don't even know why, because the flavor is just indiscernible sweetness.
