18264103 No.18264103 [Reply] [Original]

Let's discuss combinations of food that aren't offensive or gross, but rather unorthodox and could potentially be good together.
I was thinking about sweet potato with eggs today. For some reason those both sound good. I was thinking about dicing them up and making an omelet. How would that be you think? Any other ideas? Any food combinations you've never had that have potential?

Here's a handful that I really enjoy. Maybe they're not all unconventional by everyone's standards but I like them and they seem weird to me.
Dill pickles diced up on top of curry, chilli, and other savory saucy meaty dishes.
Freshly grated parmesan cheese on top of ice cream.
Peanut butter, sharp cheddar, and yellow mustard grilled cheese sandwich.
Tons of black pepper in pastry cream for filling eclairs and other desserts (maybe white pepper is more appropriate but I don't have any).
Instant coffee powder in a bowl of cereal and milk.
Miso and lemon juice compound butter on toast.

I want to try to make Italian-Asian fusion food. Imagine an egg roll, the outside is crispy and you can eat it with your hand, but the inside, instead of being veggies and egg, would be ricotta with meat sauce, like a manicotti

the way I envision it is not as a pizza roll or toasted ravioli. The inside might be similar, but the outside would be like a crunchy egg roll.

That's just one idea, I think as Asians in general warm up to dairy and cheese, there's a lot of potential for Asian/Italian fusion. Both cuisines already use noodles. And French/Asian works well like the Bahn Mi sandwich.

I want to do the opposite, I want to make a bahn mi pasta. The ingredients of a bahn mi sandwich, but instead of bread, it's in a linguini pasta maybe with a lemon based sauce

It could be but it sounds more like a prank food than something you'd genuinely eat for pleasure.
It'd also be a bitch to make at home because you'd have to effectively keep it fully melted in a water bath for like half an hour to fully infuse unless you used hot sauce. Which would - I THINK - require the addition of an emulsifier.
