People probably added pickles to hamburgers to not only add some salt and flavor to the burger but also to add some vegetables to balance the meal out nutritionally.

A couple slices of pickled cucumber aren't going to somehow cancel out the 1/10th lb of shit quality ground beef with 1/4th cup of soybean oil mayo and hfcs ketchup.
The veggies are purely for taste and texture and offer basically nothing.
That's why onion and pickles are mandatory for goyslop burgs.
