I don't get the appeal to mushrooms. They have a pretty neutral taste but the most disgusting slimy texture. If I go to a restauraunt and there's small chunks in my stir fry or whatever that's fine, but why would anyone want to eat this?

They weren't cooked long enough and still have too much water. Cook them until most of the water has evaporated and they start to brown, it makes a huge difference in flavor and texture.

There's a lot of different mushrooms with a bunch of different flavour profiles. Maybe you'll like wild ones better.

try something diffetent than shitty frozen button mushrooms on a pizza for once
for example, chanterelles are crunchy and sweet and could not be considered gummy or slimy by anyone ever. they'll be in season soon too

I go mushroom hunting every fall/late summer. There are loads of different ones that taste different and have different texture.

he's right
the only reason people don't like onions is "ewww onions!"
I feed dishes with a shitton of onions to my picky roommate, he loves them as long as I don't tell him there's onions in it

Mushrooms are not supposed to be slimy. If they are slimy there is either excess water trapped inside them or you waited too long to cook them and the moisture inside the fridge and packaging sucked up into the caps and made them ooze slime. That's what's gross.

Gotta cook mushrooms fast after you buy them. It's not something that can sit in the fridge for days. Figured that out the hard way learning how to cook and eat.

You're either eating old mushrooms or undercooked mushrooms. It doesn't help if you're buying them in cans or jars. Hell, even the stuff you find in plastic wrap isn't stored properly. If you buy the stuff plastic wrapped, take them out and put them in a paper bag to use that day. When you cook them, they're not going to really start cooking until you sweat the water out of them.

Try to find some oyster mushrooms if you can if you want an introduction to mushrooms. Making steaks out of them is a pretty easy recipe.

This. You deserve better.
Grow your own, pick your own and they're divine.
Supermarkets only serve old garbage/leftovers from their contracts with restaurants.

>but the most disgusting slimy texture
Honestly, the texture is the part I like the most.
It has just the right amount of give that I think chewing them is fun. Especially when cooked.
The neutral taste makes it work so that I can apply any flavor to that texture, and get a better product
