Just tried pig's ear for the the first time that I picked up already prepared (cut in thin strips in a sweet chili sauce) from the Asian market today. Was $11 for an entree sized container.
Taste like light sweet bacon with a chewy gelatinous texture. Glad I tried it but was kinda underwhelming. Next time I'm gonna try the tripe which I have also not experienced yet.
Any other foods you guys been excited to try that let you down? Not necessarily bad, but food that were supposed to be "exotic" but turned out to be nothing special?

Interesting
I was pretty disappointed trying squid and octopus for the first time. They pretty much taste like chewy nothingness with water

was it raw? its pretty miserable to eat when raw, but octopus tastes a bit like fried white fish when cooked

Pigear sando with red onion and yellow mustard...mhmm

Pork tripe is even chewier and less pleasing. Beef tripe is fine, but pig? No thanks. Maybe if myself and my loved ones were on the brink of starvation.

I tried eel the other day, I didn't know it would be so soft. I prefer firmer foods.

I admire your willingness to try new food experiences. It's been difficult for me to do that my entire life.

All tripe is nice. It all comes down to your sauce.
