I think I might have just topped my previous record. Open faced sandwiches made with:
>Old stale semolina bread, which might have been moldy but it's dark and I didn't want to know
>Spinach which I had in the fridge way too long, and started to get brown wet parts
>Expired eggs, not fully cooked because I like eggs runny, made them extra runny to try to salvage some good flavor in this situation
>Expired artificial pre-shredded Mexican blend cheese product, starting to get runny inside the bag
>bread not toasted because I don't have a toaster, normally fry bread in the pan with butter but I'm on a diet so I didn't do this
>didn't fry the eggs or spinach in fat; same reason
>Knowing it would taste like absolute death (and already smelling rancid) put way too much salt and pepper in an attempt to hide the flavor

I haven't eaten in two days which is the only reason I did it. It tasted so fucking bad anyway I was barely able to get it down, so I turned off the lights and just forced it in as fast as possible. The result was dripping with brown liquid which, I don't even know where it came from. I feel my gut gurgling in protest now.

What about you?

If you're so poor this is what you're subsisting on, just buy some fucking rice and beans, it'll taste much better.

For me, an Indian yogurt curry. The yogurt curdled so it was a lumpy, strange-smelling mess. Actually didn't taste bad but the texture was horrible.

I'm not poor at all, it just so happened that I had a bunch of ingredients sitting around for a long time that I never got the opportunity to eat. And I hate wasting food, the guilt has been weighing on me to eat all this stuff for weeks. Normally it never gets nearly this bad but it was just an unholy coincidence of every ingredient of the food I decided to cook being expired.

>> No.18181469

I grew up poor and my mom hoarded food so I’ve plenty of stale/expired/moldy shit but literally nothing on this earth could compare to surstromming. Everything about it is foul and godless, the wreckage of a cursed land brought out into the world.

I just feel guilty for not eating foods. Don't you ever imagine that foods have emotions, and they've been waiting their whole lives to be eaten, and if they just languish in the fridge then get thrown away it's like toys in toy story just being left in the attic or something where they just sit waiting and rotting forever. It's so sad.

I'm not poor as we've been over, but shit like this is a poverty staple. I don't know any poor people who don't have a giant bag of fiesta blend in their house. It costs like $15 for 5lbs of cheese

Probably this, or else so low IQ and unskilled that you never made it through science high enough to take microbiology 101
It's also something really ABNORMAL not to eat for 2 days and find it easier to eat literal garbage than leave your house or get food delivered.
>>18183199
>I just feel guilty for not eating foods. .... It's so sad.

It's not sad. at. all. It's just reality. Fresh food doesn't last forever, nor does it magically only ever exist for the exact amount you'll consume for that one particular recipe or that exact 7 days between shopping trips. You can and will throw out wilted or even rotten veggies, on the regular. You're not a garbage disposal nor should you compromise your health and eat bad food.

Now if you want to avoid a bit of waste, you'll put items in a ziploc in a freezer on the regular and think about soup you can make that clean out the chicken parts and veggie scraps from the freezer, or say the overripe bananas to bake with, but aside from that, consider unused portions of food to be less than like $10, like ever. Throw it out in a garden compost if it really "hurts" you, but be prepared for rats to now arrive in your yard.

Only retards have to throw away food, I buy groceries every 3/4 days and plan my meals ahead so I never had to throw food away in the last 20 years I've been living alone and cooking all my meals. But I agree op is a retard and I would have thrown all that disgusting expired food in the trash

When I first started getting into cooking, I tried to make steak au poivre but the cognac did not burn up at all, so the peppercorn sauce tasted horrible. I also somehow burnt the fuck out of the steaks while simultaneously managing to undercook them. Haven't tried to make steak au poivre since then.

>Chalky bitter crap

Have you tried removing the shells?
Seriously though I think it's something you kind of have to grow up with, a lot of foods are like that, which kind of sucks if your mother sucked at cooking. I still find veg that are crunchy are weird to me, which is a shame because I also don't really like the mushy canned shit either. I compensate by getting fresh and seasoning it, then boiling it but that lack of fresh veg in my childhood really set me up to fail.
I'm also nostalgic for food which is just objectively shitty now, like my mother would make "Ground beef stew" Which was like a kilo of beef, some oxo cubes, potatoes, carrots and peas (not even an onion) just boiled for 4 hours
I always knew it was shitty because she'd make it and then order herself a pizza for her and my brother, her favourite child, while my dad, me and my sister had to eat the slop. But I still crave it sometimes. I tried making it with better ingredients but it's just not the same.

Did you clean the shit out first or just start boiling it?

Also I'm a brit and we have tripe at the butcher, though when I asked if it's popular most people get it for their dogs. Why would it be a slaughterhouse thing if it's something you regularly eat?
