I made way more meatloaf than I intended. It's a 5 pounder and I packed it into my loaf pan. How long should I cook this monster if my oven is at 350 degrees? Google has a lot of conflicting advice. Any meatloaf masters know what to do?

Do you not own a thermometer?

I do. I know it should reach an internal temp of 165, but I'm not sure at what point to even check it since this is an enormous meatloaf. Don't wanna punch it full of holes 10 times trying to figure out when it hits temp.

For future ref, you can get a leave-in type thermometer. You plug it into the meat and let it do its thing. Depending on the type you get, it either has an app that will signal your phone when the meat reaches temp or has a little beeping/vibrating thingy that will beep/vibrate.

Out of the pan, I would cook it for about 1hr40min, checking at an hour fifteen.

Meatloaf always seems to take twice as long to cook as it should, probably since the meat is fridge-temp before baking, and because high-density foods like beef don't lend themselves to the loaf shape. It just takes forever for heat to penetrate to the center of that many inches of beef.
And 5lbs is monstrous, so if you are committed to a singular loaf I wouldn't even look at it for the first hour.
I like to put meatloaf into muffin tins. Meatmuffins only take about a half hour and are a fun shape. You also don't need to cook the shit out of the outside in order for the center to be done.

Good luck, meatloafbro

Thanks, meatloafbros. I'm almost an hour deep into cooking it now. I'll look into that leave-in thermometer, I don't typically cook meatloaf so I got caught way off guard. I'll post a pic of it when it's finished.

Cook at 375 for 40 minutes if 1 lbs.
Add 15 min cook time for each additional pound.

If you crammed it into a loaf pan there's going to be grease spillage. Put it on a sheet.
My rule of thumb has always been 45 minutes per lb. Your results may vary.
