It's really not. Most of the harm associated with soda is less about its own problems and more about the person drinking it also eating way too many calories.
It's a lot like living in Alabama as a predictor of poor health where it's associated with people who do other not great things to their bodies but the fact itself of living in that state or drinking that soda isn't especially harmful in itself.

Yeah, I'm 35, drink regular Coke daily, never had a single kidney stone or any other health problems aside from one febrile seizure as an infant.
It's really calories that determine most self-inflicted harm, and if you don't consume a surplus of calories the food and drinks you do consume aren't going to matter all that much to your health outside of extreme cases like someone never eating anything with vitamin C.
