Fact is that a creature needs a complex brain to something like pain to work to begin with. Plants have no brain, have idea what the fuck is happening, aren't aware of their existence because you need a brain for that too and they don't suffer pain. Eating them therefore causes so much less suffering compared to eating mammals that have to grow up miserably and in fear that there is literally no excuse to eat anything but plants. Meat is obviously something important enough to humans that most are instinctively okay with killing to access it. Eating meat isn't a triviality, it's a source of good quality nutrition for us, and pulling hairs because there is some arbitrary higher level of suffering involved strikes me as a rather weak argument, when the suffering we inflict on plants to survive is already unimaginable.

You can only get milk by raping cows and taking their children away from them. It's amazing how many people actually think cows just produce milk naturally year long. The only way to ethically get milk from a cow is to wait for it to naturally mate and hope that baby calf dies in childbirth.
