This happens all the time in any restaurant kitchen. In winter too, when everybody has a cold, flu or corona. It's hay fever season right now and nobody has to wear masks or gloves.

In July and August the kitchens are so hot that half of what you're eating is sweat.

You also probably never wondered how most kitchen staff has dinner. Well I can tell you they have it standing, while working on your plate of food. #notmyproblem seems to have a few problems here and there.

I used to have access to the raw data for county health inspections. Most counties have that data publicly available. If you're dumb enough to eat out, at least check that data before you do it. Most places do ok at not getting caught, but pretty much all of them do stupid shit. Based on what I saw, it goes about as you'd expect. Asian places are the worst. They've always got food held at improper temperatures, weird shit in the walk-in, algae in the ice machine, and food shipments sitting outside for hours while their cats sleep on the boxes. Indian restaurants are almost as bad. They have filthy bathrooms and reheat yesterday's buffet items.

The thing you want to watch for is a "reinspection". I'm sure it varies, but in our county, if a place failed their inspection, they would have a week to correct the problem that failed them and then they'd get a reinspection. The original inspection wouldn't be recorded.

Pretty much every place gets dinged for something. Inspectors like to feel like they accomplished something, so they'll make up bullshit just to have something to write down. It'll be something dumb like somebody drinking out of a cup without a lid. Even with places without anything serious, you're taking a risk. They're probably still disgusting, they're just not getting caught.
