How do I make a good cheesesteak at home? I usually order them from a chain nearby but they're getting too expensive. What cut of meat should I get? Asking cause I'm going to the grocery store later today and wanna know what to get

Chipped steak, not frozen.

It cooks very fast and you want to melt the cheese into it in the pan after it browns. You can chop it with a good metal spatula while cooking to whatever consistency you want.

Other than that just get good rolls, and you can do whatever toppings you want. I do mushrooms and fried onions usually.

getting it thin enough without a slicer is difficult and time consuming. it's easier to buy the pre-shaved stuff. and you use a lot of oil when you cook a cheesesteak.

Ribeye is the best for cheesesteaks but if you want something cheaper get chuck roll. Ask the butcher to slice it thin or go to an asian grocery store and you can find it pre sliced.

Flat top griddle
Butter and cook the onions / peppers for a bit cause the rest will cook fast
Cook your steakums and fry some land o lakes white american cheese. Med-High heat. That cheese can get a bit crunchy while mostly remaining melty which is nice or if you prefer it melty put it on the steakum after you flipped it once so it melts onto the steakum top while the bottom cooks
