Bros, I just discovered red lentils. A $1.25 bag makes enough soup for a week. Do you have any tips for spicing this lil niggas? This is my recipe.

>before cooking, I always put on my Kurta for authenticity

>boil the piss out of onion, carrots, with some chicken bullion
>maybe toss in an old potato or some floppy celery too
>when the onion's clear, toss in the lentils and let boil until soft
>put mixture into blender until thick bisque
>season with olive oil, red pepper flakes, cayenne, paprika
>serve with lemon wedge + a wedge of buttered-up super chewy sourdough

it's so fuckin' good bros

usually make a dhal
>sautee onions, garlic and ginger in coconut oil
>once translucent dump in the lentils with curry powder
>cover with chicken broth and let simmer till soft
heard adding coconut milk makes is pretty good but I haven't tried yet

You may not personally like them for some (likely dumb) reason but lentils are on the same level as deenz for being nutritious and underrated. This is a simple fact and anyone disagreeing is either a troll or retarded.
>t. has probably 10 kg of home cooked 300g ready-to-microwave lentil portions in his freezer and probably 30+ tins of King Oscar in his cupboard

anyway i still prefer split pea soup
i just made a ham shank and used the leftovers to make 3lbs of split pea soup, 2lbs of 15 bean soup, 5lbs of mash potatoes, 6 cups of yellow rice , 8 courts of chili and a ton of refried beans

I'm not sure why but now my freezer is stocked plus i got some cornbread chilling in a broken microwave

i try to use it up within a few months so it doesn't get freezers burned
i buy things dirt cheap when they go on sale like potatoes, onions, bell peppers but they are normally almost going bad so i have to freeze them right away and it's also kinda convenient to be able to just grab out some diced onions or preformed burgers that i only need to thaw and cook

My gf is Spanish and cooks a similar dish. I've made it a couple of times in a pinch

- 1 minced onion
- 3/4 cloves garlic, minced
- around 225g Pardina (thick green/brown) lentils
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 medium carrot, cubed
- 1 sweet red pepper, diced
- 100g diced chorizo or Iberian ham
- 1 tbsp pimenton (sweet-smoked paprika)
- 1 tbsp chopped flat leaf parsley

>Cook the onions and garlic until transluscent, then fry the meat with chopped veggies for a few mins, season with salt and pepper and paprika.

> tip in lentils and cover with water, add stock and/or a dash of white wine vinegar to taste. The Spanish recipe just uses water and no stock.

>She insists that a couple of bayleaves must also be thrown in, also add the chopped parsley. Simmer until lentils are fully cooked, maybe 30-40 mins. You can reduce the water further and make it more like a stew by simmering for about an hour as well.

I'm using them instead of flour to makes sauces thicker.

I add them to tomato sauce f.e.

You can also make a lentil steak. Or smth like a taco sauce

cut two heads of chicoree in half, fry them lightly in oilive oil, set aside. Put lentils in pan, add stock, honey and vinegar, simmer lentils in that until almost soft, then add Dijon mustard and sour cream, simmer for another minute, add chicoree back in and sprinke with roasted pine nuts and halved grapes.

cook lentils in water, when softer (as you like, just remember you have to cook more) then sautee some diced onions, carrots and celery, put the lentils and add some red wine. mix and make alcohol evaporate, then add salt, pepper and optionally some tomato sauce

I used to live in these kinda shitty apartments a few years ago and for some reason somebody would keep fucking dumping cooked lentils in the corner near the stairs about 15 feet away from my door. it just started one day, there was like a cup or so worth of cooked lentils just dumped on the ground clearly from the floor above us. we were confused but some animals ate them over the next couple days and they were gone, but they showed up again maybe a week later and I saw one of my neighbors cleaning them up, so I asked if she knew where they were coming from and she was just as confused as I was. so we complained to the office and they posted a notice saying not to dump any food or garbage where it shouldn't be, and stopped for a couple weeks but then it started again and it was like double the amount this time. then I was pissed so I went and knocked on the doors near the stairs and spoke to the people in the like 4 apartments above us and told them I didn't know who was doing it but it was clearly from one of the people on that floor, and that if it continued I would find out who it was personally. it stopped after that, and we ended up moving out about a year later. fast forward a bit and I'm going back to the same block of apartments to hang out a friend who moved into one of the neighboring apartments and the fucking lentils are back and when I asked about it they said that they had just found them there that morning and they were confused about it. never found out who it was or why they were doing it but I refuse to eat lentils now.
