Peter Pan crunchy is the best for catching rats. I used to use JIF but they definitely prefer the 'pan. They go nuts for the stuff.

That said, a PB&J made with unsweetened peanut butter is a game changer, if you can find it. Warm it through in a toaster oven until the bread goes dry and crisp and the inside combines into a sauce. (don't add too much or it will just spill out the sides) So amazing it killed elvis.
