I recently sent back an undercooked artichoke at a restaurant that, while not currently in possession of a Michelin star, had two under the chef who owns the place before he struck out on his own. He was very angry and personally came out to argue with me but it's just woody, you can't simply steam it whole for 2-3 minutes, then cut it in half, not even done in the middle, drizzle a little olive oil and balsamic reduction on it, and call it food. He REMADE it for me in exactly the same way, then I sent it back again. He refused to remake it properly but did not charge me for it. My wife's first course was OK, a little bit of fish in crepine with some herbs. But we didn't order a meal and simply left. Then we ate at a local sushi place.

How are you even supposed to eat this? Scrap the tiny amount of plant meat off each individual leaf with your teeth? Who thought this was a good idea?

I don't know, I steam them for maybe 7-12 minutes depending on size. It's dead easy. Wait until you can stick a tooth pick into the part of the stem where it goes into the base of the flower and it's done.

>>17924416
Yes, you dip it in butter or some kind of sauce or whatever. Then you take out the heart and scrape the fine hairs off it and eat that too. Typically in a restaurant only the heart is served. But chefs like to make you work for your grub these days, I've ordered a salad where I got whole romaine leaves and was to cut them up myself. I sent that back and made them chop it for me.

If I am expected to do my own prep work I should be offered a discount. Same reason I won't use self check out at the store. I'm not scanning and bagging my shit up, not my job. Give me a 10% discount and we'll talk.

I had a women send back steak tartare for being "too spicy" she made a huge scene and her friend was embarassed as fuck who said it wasnt spicy. We had literally put a single drop of tabasco in it.

personally Ive sent back uncooked seafood like a lobster tail I got that was actually raw and another time I sent back Ikura that was past its due date. Also sent back steam brussel sprouts that tasted like absolute dog shit and told them it was terrible and I had no intention of paying for it ((at a rather expensive restaurant)

How could you steam those little babies? They just beg to be roasted or pan sauteed until lightly golden.

I'll do the self-checkout because it's just easier and faster. I don't care about the principle of it being my "job" or not, if it gets me out of there faster with less interaction with minimum wage employees then I'd prefer it. If it was slower and more arduous then I wouldn't bother.

>> No.17924548

>>17924533
>it's just easier and faster
You're joking, right? You have to unload each item from the little cucky basket tray, scan it, look up the produce code if it's produce, in a BOOK or by slowly punching at icons on a screen. Then you have to carefully set each item in the bag or the system thinks you're stealing and flags the person to come sniff you. This is all substantially slower than going through a normal line.

>> No.17924552

I've though about it but I'd rather not damage my soul for a somewhat smaller grocery bill. Ajust go to a food kitchen if there is truly such a dire need

Minimum wage employees have to do most of the same things anon, and they aren't incentivized to do it quickly because they're trapped there. Only really annoying thing is doing produce and that's about as fast, just a pain on the touch screen. That and alcohol.
I get why it would annoy people, it just doesn't annoy me because either the machines at my grocery places are better than most, or the employees are worse than most. Because it's faster to do it myself.

To me it represents the overall decline in level of service across all industries and I don't support it mainly because if I did, some day there won't even BE cashiers / checkout people.

Immensly based.

They used to do this at a bar near me and everytime they would serve it like that I would take a shit on the floor of the banquet room in back by the kitchen.

I have sent food back if it is not to my liking. If some prima donna came out and argued with me, I would get up and leave, that is completely unprofessional.

Even if you dont like something, you can send it back, if you thought it would taste/feel one way, but its not straight bussin, fr fr no cap.

Coincidentally, the first time I had sushi I complained to management that my fish wasn't even cooked (I was dumbstruck when they brought it out, "that's not fucking rare dude, you didn't even try") and the owner gave me my money back and apologized because he was scared and didn't speak much English. Felt bad about it later after learning what sushi was but still felt like they need to put information on the menu warning you that the fish is going to be uncooked.

Nah there was only 1 time I got food that bad and the waiter argued with me
>Go to expensive place with a friend because she was big into trying new places at the time
>get a steak with asparagus and roasted potatoes
>Have had bad luck with steaks in restaurants so I order medium. It's the easiest to way to cook it right?
>Plate gets to my table
>Steak isn't even what you would call blue rare
>Seared on the outsides but literally COLD inside
>Texture like jello
>Tell waiter
>He tells me it looks medium to him
>Ask for manager
>He says it's cold because it's been sitting on my plate
I've been lucky enough that I've never had such a shit experience again, but if I did I would just tell the waiter my food was shit and I'm not coming back. When I go to a restaurant I shouldn't have to get into a confrontation over my food, and I say this as a man who literally lives for confrontation

>> No.17926720

Only if it's completely inedible.

Usually if they fucked something up I will leave a little arrangement of leftovers on the plate that highlights their mistake, or mention it the the waiter if the ask how the meal was.
It's situational too, like I will 100% mention a hair or olive pip, but an overdressed salad, that could be subjective, and not worth the hassle

I never send food back
one time I got breakfast of toast and eggs and the toast was moldy but I ate it anyway because I was hungover and hungry. Couple times I've gotten random shit instead of whatever I ordered and I ate it anyway.
I feel like they're going to fuck with it if I send it back.
I rarely eat out at all because I don't like people touching my food or doing weird shit to it and I never ever order delivery because that's one extra person to potentially mess with my shit. Delivery drivers I trust least of all. You're never touching my food you filthy wagies.
