If you have someone over at your house, would you serve them dinner? I always knew Vikings and Germans were autistic, but do most Britbongs really not serve food either? Explain yourselves.

What an idiotic map, Denmark has many traditions for big, long dinners.

Netherlands is true though, they will invite you over for a party at 18:00 and then expect you to have already taken care of your appetite at home. Max they'll do is a few bread sticks and cubed cheese in a plastic package from the discount supermarket.

That's the plausible way yes. If one buys a round then someone else does the next and so on unless you're with more than 3 people then the payment app gets used. It doesnt keep track of who drank what but it allows you to send a payment request through whatsapp or whatever.

It is also usual if you're invited to a party that unless stated otherwise you're not going to be fed dinner like you're some infant unable to take care of yourself. Now if said family has either Indonesian or other roots then likely if you ask they will serve you some food since they always make extra, but the usual dutch family doesn't make food for days.

yeah this is why i don't think the map is complete bullshit, just not particularly accurate. but i definitely know this sentiment exists. if you invite someone over in my cunt, it's expected the host will serve food. and the guest could bring something like liquor or fruit preserve or some appetizer. this is for adults only, in college, everyone chips in to buy chips and nuts and alcohol.
and i have a friend who can't cook who just meets up with me outside of his place and we get takeout and alcohol.

If people come over and it's a surprise visit, them I'll provide Tea/Coffee and some biscuits, but if it turns into something longer then we'll go out to eat and split the bill or I'll order in and they'll transfer me their half, but usually I wont bother asking for money if it's a takeaway because they would do the same for me.

You can expect the same in almost any Scottish persons home that isn't a literal heroin addict, and even them you'll be offered tea/coffee and a biscuit. They are junkies, not animals.

I had no idea the English were different. I think Pakis might be skewing that figure as they don't have that culture, as both working class whites and black English are very friendly to house guests in my experience and the Black girl I used to shag from Hull had a feeder for a Mum who wouldn't let me leave without feeding me.

If we're kids, my parents ask the friend if their parents have dinner plans. If they don't, they eat.

If someone shows up unannounced where I'm from, firstly we always put on a pot of coffee followed by a plate of biscuits. Doing this is literally called "the obligation" it's so deep-set into our culture.

Also, my cousin and his wife moved to Malmo (insert silly diacritics as necessary). They've said their friends, coworkers and neighbours never stop around unannounced and when they go out together, everything is divided equally down to the smallest detail. When they've received guests, my cousin's wife told me one of her coworkers commented that she must make a lot more than her to be able to afford to feed them all.
In contrast, when my cousin and his wife have been around others' houses, the entire concept of unprompted hospitality just seemed wholly alien to them. Not even water was offered. To be fair, according to my cousin, when other guests (Swedes) showed up, they ask for drinks and get them so it's not that they're stingy with food and drink, it's that they simply don't offer any unprompted.

From Naples, by the way. Cousin's wife is Indonesian.

notice how the map almost perfectly corresponds to climate zones? easy for spaniards and italians to give away food to anyone who wanders in when they live in a prime growing climate, not so much for scandis who had to contend with long winters and very little arable land. iceland and norway in particular were dirt poor countries until relatively recently, it's not easy to reverse that kind of culture

This whole situation is just really really funny to me to imagine.

Imagine you are over at a friends house, you two have been playing outside all day and you have that intense hunger that you have as a kid because you forgot how long you have been playing. You go back inside and into your friends room.
He gets up to do something and doesn't come back, so you look at what he's doing and he's sitting there at the table, with his family, eating a lavish meal of delectable dishes.
The aromas are hitting your nose and you feel your mouth water from it, again reminding you of your intense hunger.
Then you manage to pull your eyes off the food to notice the whole family stopped eating and are staring at you standing in the hallway, with emotionless faces.
After a uncomfortably long silence your friend says "I'll be done in 15 minutes, just wait in my room upstairs". As you go back to your friends room, defeated, you hear your friends sister whisper: "What a weirdo".
Then you go sit in your friends room, alone, waiting. Just you, your growling stomach and the boredom of sitting in a room that's not yours without anyone to interact.
You slowly whisper to yourself: "It's fine, surely I can eat when I go back home in 2 hours", knowing damn well that by that time at best there's cold leftovers in the fridge waiting for you. You notice some wetness on your cheek from a tear rolling down your face. 13 more minutes.

I couldn't imagine that, though admittedly I grew up in southern germany, so that map claims its rarer there. You often got snacks at a friends house (usually 1 bowl of fruit and 1 of sweets) while playing and of course you ate with the family and your friends. In the unlikely event that you already had eaten before, didn't like the food or some other reason you couldn't eat, you'd be usually expected to sit at the table with the others, but didn't have to eat. If a child would ask to play it would probably be fine, but noone would ever do that.

Before the wuhan weeze my band was on tour in europe. I met a girl in Oslo and ended up back at her place. I stayed the night, in the morning went to her kitchen to find her eating breakfast and drinking coffee. Where's my coffee and breakfast? I thought. This girl just starts talking and talking and trying to force me into her bed again, meanwhile I'm getting irritated until I blurt out, Look I'm starving can I have some toast or something? She seemed shocked and showed me where the raw bread was.

I showed that bitch the door and got the hell out of there. Walked to the mcdonalds near the station and had the most expensive big mac of my life. Those Norwegians will give away pussy before they give away a cup of coffee.

This whole recent debate actually was started by someone who remembered being at a Swede's house to play and didn't get to eat dinner.
It's just five chickens from a feather anyway. One kid told his friend to stay in his room while he went and ate. For all we know, the parents didn't even know he had a friend over.

Here's how I conceive the map because I have some experiences of giving food to guests in (North Germany)
I'm East German. One of my relatives fled to West Germany before the unification of both nations and met his future spouse. I hadn't paid attention to her while eating but my mom told me why my aunt is annoying. It turned out she never ate that good (my mom isn't a chef but I love her cooking) and she commented while eating.
"Lekko" - she said with with an "O" like in Bob. In English it would be "Yammeo".
It's not like we have a Low German heavy dialect but this is very weird. It's like she wasn't able to say a normal compliment. We still make fun about that but we don't invite them anymore.

Then there is the bf of my sister. He is in a rowing club or something and LOVES meat. Since my sister prefers vergetarian meals it seems he doesn't see meat very often. After our parents invited to an Easter Dinner - salmon. My sister and her bf came earlier and we had to announce we come later. However they could start eating. After arriving my sister's bf already ate the half fish. Minus mom's and dad's portion we got only 300 gram for we two. A similar thing happened after my mom invited the kids' family for dinner (Königsberger Klopse/meatballs). He was only etaing the meatballs and, almost no sauce nor potatoes.
We decided to avoid him at all costs. whenever we pay my parents a visit.

When I had friends over, which was seldom because my parents are insane, they'd sometimes ask what we were having for dinner after we'd offered them to eat with us. This would hurt my mom's ego so much that she would disinvite them (which 80% of the time was pretty lucky for them since we got poverty slop)

Their sauce could very well have meat from at least two different animals (pork and beef), occasionally three (+veal). Couldn't even begin to guess what a fourth animal could be unless you consider boar somehow culinarily distinct from pork.
For my part of Italy, it's pork breast, beef breast, beef belly roulades and/or bone-in cuts, like ribs (cut across the bones, rather than along them), the meatiest part of the neck or chunks sawed off from the shoulder.
