If you go into any relatively average Australian restaurant and look at the menu, they always have the same shit there. Burgers, fries, fish and chips, steak, and something extra if your lucky. There's absolutely no variety whatsoever, but if you go to like a Thai restaurant or any other foreign cuisine restaurant, it actually tastes really good. Apart from that, those restaurants also have a variety from place to place, so they aren't all the exact same. Another thing I noticed about Australian "cuisine" is that we literally have no foodstuffs we can proudly say that we made (except some shitty brown sauce and meat pies), while even America has corn/hot dogs.

Why is Australian food culture so garbage? We're even worse than Britain in some places lmao

Thai food is fake and gay. King Rama IX flooded the world with money to push this fake and gay cuisine on the world. It's only been 40 odd years since he made up all the fake and gay Thai dishes and forced everyone to accept it. What did they eat for thousands of years prior to this? Not a hamburger with the lot that's for sure.

I went to an Australian restaurant in Wollongong just yesterday. I asked what was on the menu, they said "burgers, fries, fish and chips, steak, and something extra if you're lucky." I asked why Australian food culture is such garbage and they just shrugged.

Are you sure that it wasn’t just a pub / bistro restaurant?

>Bistro: a small restaurant, serving moderately priced simple meals in a modest setting.

Besides a few different dishes I suppose there isn’t much more to it, they probably just serve fancier versions in more expensive restaurants or they do fusion cuisine.

There's a really good burgeoning scene for using native ingredients which is something that previously wasn't done as Australia generally simply imported culinary styles rather than seeking to invent a national style.

I can answer some of this due to growing some natives, we have native versions of multiple herbs which are similar but different to their counterparts, aussie citrus like the finger limes, other weird things like saltbush which absorbs salt from coastal regions and, instead of dying, tastes like salt. Those are the main ones. We also have some edible flowers, making a cute centrepiece for a salad, among other things.

Much like with Chinese food, it took American's to make Australian food good.

>> No.17909893

what do you expect?

send britains worst to a land of cannibals and primitives, let them rot for a couple hundred years and this is what you get. a backwards people who can barely recognize cutlery, let alone produce anything with culinary value. just look at their flag - derivative of the union jack and yet somehow shittier. it's much the same with their cuisine. moot was right - I hate australians so god damn fucking much.

>Why is Australian food culture so garbage?
It isnt though. We dont have our own cuisine but we have great produce and have embraced foreign cuisines and a high standard of quality.
You just suffer from cultural cringe and take shit for granted. Even our local bakeries are of a much higher standard than the U.K or New Zealand.

I tried asking /int/ what cuisine Australia has made but all they could think of was a bunch of English dishes and fairy bread. I mean, thats cool youre still in touch with British culture, but think of some new stuff already.

Pepperberry is really good. Name because it was used by early settlers as a pepper substitute, and whilst it is similar, has a slightly more complex flavour.

Cultural foods take a long time to develop and are usually derived from similar cultures. Unfortunately for us we are a British colony.
