I love American Chinese food.
Mongolian beef
pork/chicken fried rice
Chow Mein (sometimes crispy pan-fried Hong Kong noodles)
General Chicken (my brother loves it more than me)
Sweet and sour spareribs
Potstickers
Walnut shrimp
Curry chicken

Usually some variation of the above (not all at once). Depends on what's good at a given place, I mix it up a lot. Sadly my favorite places closed down, so lately I've been getting Taiwanese food more instead (Chicken Drumstick over Rice and their Zha Jiang Mian). It's amazing but sometimes I crave the classic takeout I grew up with.

I bought a kilo of MSG and started experimenting with it.
It's a fucking meme, tried to add it to meat dishes and it flattened the taste, tried to add it to soup and didn't notice any change, added it to tomato dishes and it only gave a weird aftertaste, added it to vegetable dishes and it just tickled the underside of my tongue but no other difference in taste.
I used 2/3 salt and 1/3 MSG in my usual recipes and it only made me feel that the end result just lacked salt.
All those jewtube videos salivating over MSG meat? It's either a fucking lie or I am retarded.

>what is anon's usual chinese takeout order?
At my local place it's the Combo K. General Tao's Chicken done spicy, pork mushroom fried rice substituted for chicken fried rice, wonton soup extra fried wontons on the side and an eggroll.
When I take it home I put mushroom soy sauce in the wonton soup. I mix the general tao and the fried rice together in a bowl with some extra hot oil and special seasoning soy sauce I get from the chinese grocery.
There is usually enough for two meals for only ~13 canuck bucks.
General Tao, chicken fried rice and wonton soup is what I order from every new chinese place I try, it's a litmus test to see how much the care about not reusing old oil, their spice level for white people and how much they want to screw you with the batter to chicken and rice to main dish ratios.

The mere fact that you think that there exists the "Reddit VS based/pol" epistemic dichotomy should alarm you to the fact that you are a mentally ill retard - you are so fucking ignorant and retarded that you don't even have a concept of what understanding would mean.

I was gonna quote all of the children in this thread but their are too many so I stopped there. Anyone who orders orange chicken or general tso's chicken is confirmed for being 10 years old or younger. Develop a palate so you can enjoy more than chicken and sugar sauce.

My order:
moo shu pork
hot and sour soup
shrimp mei fun or shrimp egg fu young
eggroll
white or fried rice

If any of you babies want to take a step into adulthood, or if you're an adult interested in trying something new, take the moo shu pill. Delicious, full of meat and veggies instead of chucks of fried cartilage covered in sugar sauce, and will keep you full for days.

"mooshu pork" is actually one of the more authentic items on the american chinese menu, retard. Sure, it's americanized a bit, but most of the ingredients are relatively similar to it's true form. You can tell the more authentic recopies because they are heavier on the vegetables than meat. You'd know this if you knew a single thing about actual chinese food other than "le bug xD" memes posted on an anime website.

look dude I'm not putting down chinese food, I lived in Japan for five years and had to travel all over SE Asia for work (commodities market) and I'm just saying everything on an american chinese menu is american, without question, regardless of how mooshu pork is actually on chinese menus as well. when you eat at places in china, the food's usually fucking incredible once you've gotten used to the profile but that profile just doesn't exist in america and yes, every one of them has bugs on the menu and I've tried some kind of cockroach with clients after boozing hard, I thought I was being pretty fair when I pointed out that chinese places have bugs on the menu. I point it out because the closest to chinese taste outside of china I ever found was in a place in soka, saitama which had (no surprise) bugs on the fucking menu so I knew it'd be good (it was). Japan has its own local chinese variant (basically just tantan-men and mabodoff) so it can be frustrating to find good asian food there.

the point im making with all this is that you're a fag for thinking your american chinese food is more authentic than orange chicken (it's not). it's designed for burgers. it tastes like how they'd expect. the chinese are very clever in marketing themselves and adapting to local tastes. you can brag about how authentic your mooshu pork is all you like, it'll taste like spaghettios though if you have it sometime in china, the kind of black pepper they use will just immediately numb your mouth

I’m not claiming the authenticity as what makes it a less childish option. My main claim was that it’s more adult to eat a dish consisting of meat and a bunch of different veggies than it is to get fried chicken nuggets in a sugar glaze. You brought up authenticity first and acted like moo shu wasn’t an authentic dish, when in reality it is. I did agree with you that the version we have is Americanized, but it’s based on a real dish unlike orange or general Tsos chicken, which are on the menu specifically to cater to the childish American palate.

I’ve not once seen moo shu, mei fun or egg fu young on a Panda Express menu, though I haven’t been there since I was 8. The moo shu and egg fu young seem too complex for them as they require more than just a cardboard box to package and serve.

Not Anon, but orange chicken and General Tso's chicken are unspiced, sugar-sweetened variants of spicy citrus chicken. The main differences are
-the copious amounts of sugar sauce used in the westernised version
-the lack of star anise and prickly ash in the westernised version
-the chicken is not battered nor deep fried in the Chinese version
Also, I could be wrong, but I don't think the westernised version uses garlic or spring onion; Chinese version uses both.

If you like typical Hunanese/Sichuanese flavours, you'll like it, even though it has a bittersweet taste due to the citrus peel, which is little unusual for the region. Strongly recommend.
