i have no idea where the fuck this nonsense came from, if its wet food, tuna is cheaper for the same portion, if its bulk dry food (even the cheap shit), rice is cheaper
if anyone is actually starving or incompetent, soup kitchens are a thing as are various charities and food shelves that would otherwise sit there.
i have never quite been there as I had some family support but I have had less than a dollar in my checking account before in college but it didn't occur to me to head to the fucking pet food isle with my last 75 cents that day

Before 2020 food was very cheap in the US. Ive heard of people in the UK especially those on fixed incomes eating pet food to survive. But it wouldnt surprise me that more people are resorting to doing this even in the US. Pet food has to be human grade for this reason.
