Microwave oven
Fuck that shit.

>> No.17891188

I lived without a microwave for about 15 years. I told myself it was for plebs

I recently bought my own place and unfortunately it came with a microwave. I was like "I'm never gonna use that thing but oh well"

Fast forward a bit and you know what? It's true. Microwaves a shit. I use my toaster oven much more. I try to remember to use it sometimes but I just forget, it has no place in my life because I don't live off shit tier frozen foods

toaster oven > actual oven > dutch oven > rice oven >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> microwave "oven"

Microwaves can
>cook rice/grains faster than stovetop
>thaw from frozen pretty well if you know what you're doing
>make sauces, custards, dips, candies, ganache, gummies easier than on stovetop
>make super fast, super crispy bacon if you know the method
This is just off the top of the head. You can definitely get by without one but they're very useful.

greetings from the deep dark past.
I come from the time before the microwave was available to the public.

it was a dark time where heating up food and leftovers involved pots on a stove or waiting forever and heating up your whole kitchen with your oven.

our first microwave had only a time. it only had full power and my dad insisted that a mug of water always be in it.

like many people we tried cooking in the microwave:
roasts
chicken
or anything that you would normally cook on a stove or in an oven.

it was shit for that. meat always came out grey and tough, shit exploded, and it was difficult to set it for less than 1 minute.

but where it shined was reheating food. you had to baby it, and watch it carefully but oh my god! reheating food in less than 1 minute and not dirtying several pots or pans? GENIUS!

now I use them for reheating food, heating or boiling water, melting butter, melting chocolate.

what a great invention.

the microwave oven has one use and one use only: heating up single portions of food in the container you are going to eat it from.

people who use microwaves to "cook" are either bodybuilders or psychopats with no in-between (or both).
