i believe its supposed to be ironic. i had a friend who was a "picky eater" and it just meant he wasnt very willing to try foods outside his comfort zone and stuck with basic supermarket hotdog shit with just ketchup no mustard

Used to be a picky eater but grew out of that because I realized that it makes you look like a little bitch. The only thing I can't force myself to eat is blue cheese, that rancid flavor just doesn't sit right.

That's just stupid, lots of picky eaters have terrible diets and eating habits; if anything it makes for a less varied diet and its just as possible to only eat one brand of shit processed food as it is to be picky and reject unhealthy stuff, easier actually.
That's like saying that the reason we have so many traffic accidents is because not enough people are agoraphobic and won't leave their house.

What's wrong with this picture:
Sandwich bread has crusts, can't eat those
Ketchup? GROSS
Only acceptable apple can't be cheap and plentiful, has to be honeycrisp that costs as much as meat and isn't always available so you buy too many and they rot because "I really don't like fruit but I'm trying"
Only one item that MUST be one brand? LOFL
Also, that single acceptable brand must change every 9-12 months for no reason along with travel/shopping plans since it's only available in one place where you live. Also has to be stupid expensive and nothing special.
Also add:
Foods can't touch on plate
Can't eat leftovers
Insist that certain ingredient combos are terrible and wrong even though you eat them all the time; when this is pointed out abandon food you happily ate for years
Insist that certain combos like "hot" and "red" are disgusting, when asked if you mean hot spicy or hot temperature say "both".
Get mad and say you are being "attacked" when your pickiness and the burden it creates on meal planning is mentioned. Insist that it's your right as an adult to act like a spoiled, petulant child, and how dare you act like my parent.
Then ask, "So, what's for dinner?"

t. live with and feed one , it's like having a fussy toddler without the sweet relief of an 18 year sentence period.

I have discovered that I completely despise papaya. I now have to try it several times to ensure I can eat it to preserve my claim of not being picky, because if somebody who refuses to eat anything that has touched an onion or isn't a shade of yellow-brown learns this, I will forever be remembered as being "picky about papayas" and will no longer be able to convince them to try any food item because "well, you don't like papayas, so I'm allowed to not like [blank, blank, blank, blank, and blank]!"

>Can't trust others to do the shopping
This is less about being a picky eater and more about actual meal-management.
And that can be a matter of needing specific ingredients, or having to follow a doctor-recommended diet.

An example.
It was the night before Thanksgiving. I was cooking at my parent's house and realized that they didn't have anything I could properly brine the turkey in. I sent my brother out to the store to pick up some brining bags.

He came back with oven bags.
Turns out the wagie store clerk he asked was too stupid to know the difference, and he wasn't aware that oven bags aren't load-bearing.
By the time I'd realized what had happened, it was too late. The stores had already closed, and I was stuck brining a turkey in an oven bag.
It was a fucking shit-show.

I don't blame my brother for not knowing the difference. But I sure as shit try to avoid letting other people shop for me, because there's a 100% chance that I'm going to need to make a second trip to the store if they do.

Being picky doesn't really have much to do with whether or not you eat too many calories.
Some picky eaters are skinny autists who only eat instant noodles and others are landwhales who only eat ice cream and bacon cheeseburgers. And others might manage to eat just the right amount of calories to be in the ideal middle range of weight.
Studies on picky eating don't consistently find relationships between being that way and either greater or lesser than average weight.

>> No.17887864

>>17887525
I never thought of picky eating as "really liking X food." Thought of it more as "really hating a lot of foods while tolerating X food."
I've been underweight my entire life and that's how it was for me. I didn't love the foods I ate, I hated the random strange foods pushed on me by parents of friends when I went to their houses as a kid. I was fine with not eating at all while there but 90s boomer parents would always take it personally if you didn't eat their stupid food.

It's actually because things are suburban and industrialized instead of life or death and primal that kids become picky eaters, not that they were naturally that way and well suited to more modern times.
No starving child in a jungle is going to die because they were a picky eater. They wouldn't even have the idea to be picky in the first place.
