I'm not a prepper type, but my family was just fucked by the formula shortage and I don't want to be caught off guard again.

Do I just buy a ton of rice? Everything else won't last. I could live off of rice and eggs, but you can't keep eggs forever.

Rice, dry pasta, beans (both dried and canned), water packed sardines, peanut oil, maybe olive oil but remember it goes rancid more quickly than other oils, powdered milk, salt, sugar to be saved only for emergencies and occasional morale boost, vodka only for trading with alcoholics.

In eastern Australia our winter crops have been screwed by multiple floods, in Europe there's a war starting, in USA they're struggling to get the supply chain back on track, and everywhere freight drivers keep needing more sick days than they have in the past or some reason.

The world runs on oil. Energy crises, even minor ones, always result in food shortages shortly after. Remember to think of Joe Biden showering with his teenage daughter when you buy your 20 dollar package of grade B chicken breasts (4)

There shouldn't be any issue in the US. We grow most of our food or import it from Mexico. The supply chain disruptions apply to East Asia. While drivers are hard to get that should just result in more expensive food, not straight shortages.

Where do you even buy dried beans? Don’t see them at any of the stores.

>> No.17876347

>>17876305
Both are fine. Canned beans benefit from:
>Preservatives (useful in this scenario)
>Easier consumption due to significantly less prep time required
>More practical in energy-restricted environments (power outages, gas drops, etc)
>More durable and freely stackable for storage compared to most dry bean solutions
Besides what I mentioned, some canned seafood is useful for similar reasons. I'd also recommend bouillon/consomme and black pepper for optional flavoring any of these things if you're not afraid of MSG, maybe a bit of soy sauce as well. Soy sauce and consomme both keep well, even if they don't add much nutritionally. People like to think about the staples, but never stop to consider how they can make them 'work' long-term.

You can get yourself an emergency starvation kit for like $50.
>50# flour - $25
>20# potato$ - $10
>20# onions $5
>5# butter -$10
You can supplement this with whatever you like that contains nutrition and has a shelf life, but these emergency rations will keep you going for a good while and will last for like a month without refrigeration. In America, you won't need any longer before whatever disaster is over or at least before people are able to relieve you

My co-worker saw me in the store back in February 2020 filling my cart. Gave me some shit about me overreacting. Literally dropped 'It's just a flu' on me.

It didn't matter what the Hell it was. It was going to lead to supply issues.

I had all these cozy-ass supplies on hand including plenty of toilet paper and tinned treats of various things. Then I was sent to work from home laughing my ass off as retards stabbed each other for Charmin and Spam.
