Is it worth it? I keep getting shilled this product and I think I'm gonna cave, talk me out of it and/or shill it some more (Talk about cost, taste, complexity, convenience, etc.). On a related note, is there any food box subscription service you want to shill instead?

You mean you see internet posts about it?
What the fuck is wrong with you? A few internet posts and you’re suddenly throwing money at shit?
Dude you’re a fucking failure at life.

Absolutely not.
You can spend 20 minutes on the internet to find better recipes.

i literally just got it to support a youtube creator, absolutely 100% not worth it
the "17 free meals" is over the course of like 3 months
you get 50% off the first week and then it's like 60 dollars a week for 4 meals which is fucking insane
there's 2 portions meaning you're spending an hour cooking barely more food than a stouffer's frozen meal
and the menu changes every week so you can't even get recurring shit you like

it's honestly such a bad service for anybody who knows how to cook even the slightest bit, but it's still SO fucking expensive
without the trial and discounts it's like 80 or 90 bucks a week
each meal is maybe 3$ worth of ingredients, and that's including meat

i had a chicken and rice meal and it gave us 1/2 a cup of rice, dry
when i make rice in the rice cooker i make 2 or 3 cups for the both of us

it's a waste of time via opportunity cost, and a waste of money overall
if you'd just gone to the grocery store you could make 4x the amount of food for the same time and money

>> No.17871322

not worth it
>pricey
>recipes use too much lemon
>many recipes are merely OK
>1 out of 3 shipments there's something wrong with one or more ingredients, so now you have to go to the store to replace it
>many of the meals use a spice blend or special sauce that you can't get at the grocery store so it's difficult to replicate if you end up liking it

also one time they sent me the foulest pork I've ever received. it literally smelled like shit.

I spent nearly 2 years on Blue Apron and another 2 years on Hello Fresh. I did this because I fell into depression, didn't really know how to cook, and I could afford it. It helped me out of a pretty dark spot in my life, ignited a love of cooking, and taught me a lot of things my parents weren't able to.

Honestly if you are in a similar situation I would 100% recommend them. If not, then there are better options out there. Nowadays I get my stuff from Misfits market and Crowd Cow because it's even cheaper than the grocery store and I don't care what my produce looks like.

First things first, you will spend nearly twice the amount of money on food than you would getting it at a grocery store. However, you probably already know this. I'm going to presume this doesn't bother you.

Second thing is that the cook times they list on their cards are absolutely bullshit. At least the prep times are. I once timed how long it took me to prepare something that they specified would be 5min and even when I rushed it would take nearly 15min to do so. Plan that time out accordingly, because they obviously didn't.

Third thing is that Hello Fresh has easier recipes, but they taste worse. Blue apron is far superior in terms of quality, but they take more work and time to do.

Pic as evidence that I did spend literally 4 years on these things. I still use these recipes all the time. No regrets.

We had this thread yesterday. The recipes are nothing special, the produce is shit and the meat is standard. The packaging has lots of waste.

Thanks for the detailed opinions, I was going to drop a few bucks just to support my favorite content creator but I'd rather cook on my own, maybe I'll try the 50% first week off and then drop it just to see what it's like.

I like that I don't have to think about what I want to cook and it comes with easy instructions. My wife's bf Tyrone loves it, serious gourmet shit he says.

The first weeks can be worth it, since they’re heavily discounted. People might argue that per dish they’re still more expensive than you could make buying the ingredients yourself at the grocery store, which is true, but if you take into consideration the variety of meals you can get, and the fact they’re all portioned out precisely, you’d end up spending a lot more at the grocery store for the same exact menu, because you can’t buy ingredients at the small quantities hello fresh provides, nor could you make such varied dishes for that discounted price. In the long term however, at none discounted prices, it’s definitely not worth it.

In terms of how it tastes, I actually found every meal to be excellent. It still requires cooking knowledge, since the recipes aren’t as detailed as they should be, but personally I know how to cook and so it was very easy for me to do each recipe. I also disagree with this Anon >>17871361 on the cook times. The cook times are very realistic imo, but again this depends on you’re pre-existing knowledge on cooking. I was able to figure out the recipes without paying too much attention to the recipe cards, just because I know certain principles within cooking.

I also found that every recipe tasted great and it introduced me to certain ingredients and techniques that I found interesting and have started to use in my regular cooking.

Anyway, only you know if it’s worth it for you individually, it depends on your motivation. I think the real beauty of them is the fun of being able to try recipes and dishes you wouldn’t normally make. If you’re into cooking as a hobby, then that can be fun, since it’s a way of trying a variety of dishes easily, without the hassle of shopping for lots of ingredients and researching recipes yourself. In terms of cost, if you’re just looking to save money, it’s obviously not worth it, since you can make much cheaper meals at home if your goal is to just save money.

Yes it's worth it, but only if you sign up under a new email every time for the free week, every week for 2 months like I did. Now I'm banned and they're trying to bill me and I won't pay so they gave up

the in-video endorsements are always so forced and preposterous I can't help but be baffled by them and the thought of anyone getting them

the magic spoon ones were just kind of goofy by comparison. and while I'm sure the food itself is probably fine, theres something almost unnerving/dystopian about signing up to hello fresh and eating only what they make for you
