You don't let them guilt you into a tip for just handing you your coffee, right?

no and i never patronize the place out of principle ever again because there's 75k other places to go within half a mile of even a bumfuck city in montana. they do exhaustive focus groups for what shade of minimalist neutral color their inside walls are painted but im sure there isn't a single egghead in a marketing department at any restaurant group that's ever thought these things might be off putting to some people

I never go to places that have those things and I pay CASH

I used to work at a Dunkin and all the regulars tipped, and a lot of the randoms. $3.09 (it's gone up since I quit, it's nearly $4 now) for a shitty large iced coffee, and $1-2 tip. Everyday. $150 a month for some of the worst coffee you can buy. I never tip carryout and I refuse to order delivery out of principle; I don't drive and if I can't walk to go get what I want, I just don't. We (Americans) really have an odd feeling of social pressure/guilt to tip for fucking everything. When questioning 'why tip?', the usual response is "tHaT's HoW ThEy mAkE ThEiR mOnEy'... yeah alright, pressure yourself into socially funding someone, then scream how healthcare for all is communism and bad.

Anyway tipping is really dumb. Fuck tipping.

Why do you have to tip before you even get your coffee? I thought tip was a bonus for good service. Do you have to do chargeback if you get shit service and cold coffee?

But ever since the lockdown they're "heros", anon.

I think they should tip ME for braving the pandemic to give local businesses my money (hard earned through listening to Zoom meetings) and helping the cashiers to keep their jobs.

For no reason other than you're paying through a tablet that asks if you want to tip. It "sort of" makes sense tipping a server who's refilled your diet coke for the third time, brought your food out so you can be a lazy slob and took away the napkin you used to blow your nose into. They had to provide an actual service that wasn't just taking the food and going home in your pajama pants to eat it in front of the tv.

It's not really service to just hand you the coffee they made you. McDonald's does the same thing without asking for a tip.

This. Regret is not rape, and if you have half a brain all the court will ever see is regret.
