Anyone use instacart or any other grocery delivery? I've never done it and would like to be even more shut in than ever before.

Got tips and tricks?

>> No.17833840

I tried it once only because someone gave me a 50 dollar gift certificate so I figured fuck it, 50 dollars of free groceries. I put in the order for the next day and they said it would be delivered between 4 and 6 PM. Then 6 PM came and went and no groceries. They sent me a text saying the delivery time was updated to 8 PM. Then 8 PM came and went. Then I got a text saying 9 PM. Then I called their customer support asking where the fuck my groceries were and they told me they hadn't been delivered because none of the instacart shoppers picked up my order. Told me sorry for the inconvenience and offered me a 5 dollar coupon.

Avoid vegetables/fruits and be prepared for anything with a short shelf life (bread, milk) to expire in a few days sometimes. The instacart shoppers don't give a shit in most cases and just grab whatever the first thing is so they can say they got you the thing even if it's half rotten.

>>17833840
You forgot the part where you got your 50 dollar coupon back as well as any other costs you put into it, so you still have 50 bucks in free shit and 5 more dollars on top of it and lost nothing aside a waste of a few hours of waiting. It does suck but I've had this happen one time out of a lot of times.

It varies.
If the store has their own its usually okay
If you use instacart or something you get a non English speaking brown person, or someone who is too lazy to even be a wagie.
They'll get the wrong things all the time. If they are out of what you want, they just fucking wing it.
>out of the rolls I wanted
>they gave me bagels
>ordered pork loin
>got beef round
It all gets refunded or replaced for free, but its a pain in the ass.
Also they call to clarify sometimes, so you have to give directions to M'Koumbia over the phone about what percentage fat of ground beef you're looking for and he ends up with shrimp or some shit

Depending on where you're shopping some websites allow you to put notes with each item and you can specify what substitutions will work for you. I usually specify other possible options and then say if they aren't there just cancel them too. I don't want Mo'queesha calling me to ask if 'day aint got nun that breyed is buskets okay'

I just went three weeks without a car and had to use Doordash to get my groceries. It works fine enough but between the fees they fuck you over with and the tip you have to leave if you want your stuff quickly, you'll be paying a lot more. My advice is to you is don't use them and try become shut in a little less instead.

I wouldn't use doordash for it, that's pretty much just for fast food/restaurant pick-up and the 'employees' treat it as such. Having them shop just annoys them.

Use instacart or the store's own delivery service and they usually have you tip after the delivery via an email or in whatever app/website so they don't screw you over for low tip anyway unless you're repeating customer who keeps giving them nothing or something, I suppose.

Yeah, I had a free coupon and even then the service was shit. Why would I spend my money for a good chance that some lazy dipshits aren't even going to pick up my order, thus leaving me out of food, when I could just go get it myself and be guaranteed to get my food exactly as I wanted it? That's a fucking retarded business model.

I don't know, I used this stuff because I had a spinal surgery and I don't live near my family, but if there's no need for it it's never going to be a better option than going yourself or at worst doing the pick-up where you just drive up and they load your stuff (which I recommend way more than delivery). The actual store staff do those orders so they always get done, though I've had one of those actually be delayed an hour too - but it was like the day before a big storm so it's understandable.

I used amazon/whole foods a few times when i was quarantining for covid. I didn't have any issues with delivery or packaging. But it's frustratingly overpriced as I typically buy a lot of clearance / discounted / bulk items. (I refuse to pay more than $6/lb for meat). The bananas they gave me were super green. They took a 3 weeks to actually ripen after I got them.

what about direct to grocery? I can afford the time for a trip to the market for fresh produce but I run out of pantry goods a lot.
>>17833923
I think I might just try store direct delivery.
>>17833937
Yeah fuck doordash and their fees. I'm not planning on using doordash and I'm buried right now with work. It also would be nice to have a consistent and quality delivery service to save time.
>>17833978
Also have spinal surgeries in my past. Having more time for /fit/ is very important to me. Also chronic pain, not always mobile.
>>17834033
Kinda pricey for what you get. I am thinking about trying a local brand called Sprouts. Basically the same thing and they have bulk items (oats, flour, nuts, etc.). Pretty good butcher and produce as well. I can at least get big spends from them and a little bit of produce then when I really need fresh produce head to the local market (which sucks).

>> No.17834679

I love when they bring me shit I don't ask for, which is quite often; if I get charged for it Instacart always refunds me and if I don't then I don't lol.
Free food is great. Best thing I've gotten for free was 1.5 pounds of jumbo shrimp that somebody else ordered.

>> No.17834716

>>17834667
What did you even use? Service charges for most grocery store delivery I've seen depending on the place is 6 to 10 dollars maximum, and you chose to tip that high so that's on you. I've never tipped more than $5 for anything in my life because it's not my job to pay someone I don't employ's salary.

>>17834151
Store delivery if they actually do deliver it themselves will be a lot better than third parties because the workers will just get the food from the back so it also usually is going to be newer/have further expiration dates/not be damaged - but be careful because most of those grocery stores claiming to do delivery will then tell you (either very clearly or sneak it in) that it's actually just instacart (or similar) rather than actually them. If you don't see anything like that just keep an eye out and see what they pull up in - if it's just a random SUV and a soccer mom or trashy black guy is delivering it it's probably instacart and not the store.

If you have the time to get produce then it's probably worth it to just do grocery pick-up where you pick a time (some, like walmart, make you pick a time when ordering but then you are free to come anytime in like 48 hours and they will be fine with it) and just call a number on a sign when you get there and they load that shit up for you. It usually only takes like 5-10 minutes because they prepare it all before your selected time so it's just sitting in the fridge storage area in boxes on a cart they pull out to load it with. It's cheaper too - no delivery fee, no tip, no up-marked prices.

You could even wait until they message you that the order is ready, drive down there, go in the store and get your produce, then go to the pick-up spot in your car and get the rest if you really wanted.

I was hospitalized for a Pulmonary embolism last year and when I got home I couldn't drive for a while so I got groceries delivered from Walmart. Service was very good, but the fees were a bit high. Glad I'm able to go get my own groceries now.

Never get vegetables with delivery. The other part, I've never encountered any place that does not tell you the substitutions and ask if you're okay with them and/or not let you refund/replace them for free (albeit being irritating). Maybe next time give them your phone number like they ask you to and let the nubian queen Sha'quarty ask if Pringles Pizza flavor is okay since Pringles Baconator are all out.

I hate having to rely on Instacart, but have no choice when I'm too busy with work to buy groceries. They overcharge items since the items are almost always cheaper in store, and the drivers are fucking retarded. Even if you select a replacement preference for an out of stock item, they'll text you and ask what you want or straight up refund the item. Now I select to refund an OOS item because it's not worth the trouble. Oh, and you always either end up getting an item you didn't pay for, or missing an item.

Don't order meat, or produce. The people picking the stuff out doesn't give a fuck about expiration dates, ripeness of fruits, or the fat content of your meat.

Seriously, it's better to just get that stuff yourself. Otherwise it's very convenient to just use your local grocery app, and just wait outside the store for some one to load you cart up.
