The 80's were great. Nobody gave a fuck about how you cooked your streak so long as it was well done.
Now everyone is anxious about how to cook a steak properly and its slightly overcooked you get berated by autistic screeching. "This is medium. I ordered medium rare reverse seared! Reeeee!"

People were afraid to eat undercooked meat until proper refrigeration existed. Imagine buying meat from the local butcher that had been sitting on the display case for a week held at room temperature. You'd want to burn the fuck out of it too. I rarely order steak at a restaurant, and almost never send something back, but if I order a mid-rare steak at a fucking steak house and it comes back mid-well I'm sending it back. I do blue rare on purpose when i pretty much just want meat sashimi. Its not for 'steaks'. For searing 15 seconds each side then throwing in the freezer for 15 minutes, then slicing thinly and dipping in sauce.
